Tammy Abraham set a new record in the English Championship when he netted the equalizer in Bristol City’s 2-2 draw with Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday,
his 16th goal in the second-tier, his youngest player in 20 years to score more than 15 goals in a single season.

I’ve seen Tammy a few times now this season at Bristol City and he looks very promising if not quite ready for Chelsea yet perhaps a season at a PL club next season would be the way to go although I’m sure Bristol City would love to hang on to him for another season.

Although I’m sure Conte will want to have another look at him in the summer and he does seem more open to giving our young players an opportunity.

Great achievement and a great prospect no doubt. I would expect Conte to look at him in the pre season as well but I really do not see him coming back to the Bridge next year

Like Bamford, he has proved that he has the ability in the Championship and for Tammy, in what is now a struggling side. However, and I have said this many times, there is a big gulf between the Championship and the EPL and so for me, I would expect Tammy to go on loan again next season but to an EPL club

Probably might just go for 6 months to begin with a view to bringing him back if he does well or allowing us to move him on if he is not getting games or simply extending his loan if that is deemed preferable

I think it is to big a risk to go with Costa and then having Michy and Tammy fighting it out for the no.2 spot when we will have the extra pressure of the CL to cope with. And that is assuming that Costa stays. If he goes then we are banking on the new guy hitting the ground running…? KTBFFH

See where you are coming from 1905 but that is sometimes how stars are born. Just look at Kane and Rashford.

Take your point it would be risky with Costa, Michy and then Tammy only fighting on 4 fronts. However now we have just Solanke, Michy & Costa – we’ve done ok. We only play one up top!

Trarore, RLC too… I actually would rather we did NOT go and wax £70mill on an over priced no.9 but too many questions marks over Costa & Contes trust in Michy to have this convo now, too much uncertainty.

What is certain is Tammy looks a brilliant prospect and more physically ready than our last 2 strikers to come through the ranks.

My hope would be Tammy to come home next season and be used from bench and in cup games where possible.

I think Tammy deserves his chance and it would be down to him to prove to Conte he is worthy for next season and like you say players like Kane and Rashford show it can be done. My gut feeling is that it is still too early for him yet

Take the point that effectively we have only had 2 strikers this season as Solanke has never featured to the best of my knowledge (not even in the FAC) so that says something in itself and is a learning curve for him (wonder if he would have preferred a loan and games…?)

The big question will revolve around Costa – simple as

I think until that is resolved Conte will not really know what he has to do and he cannot afford to let the issue linger and suddenly be caught out if Costa left as we would be held to ransom so IMO, if we do have to buy a replacement striker then he has to be onboard before the pre season training kicks in to give him as much time as possible to integrate unless it is someone from the EPL (and I guess that Lukaku is the name that springs to mind)

Potentially difficult times but being the optimist I am hopeful that the trio of Costa, Hazard and Courtois will all stay as they will be Champions (premature…?) and playing in the CL and are happy and well settled where they are….!! KTBFFH

1905,major question marks still exist re Solanke’s future with Chelsea as I understand it the club wouldn’t let him go out on loan because he hasn’t commited himself to a new contract after his Agent Step Father asked for £50k pw and just as things seemed to be progressing towards a sensible compromise he still hasn’t commited himself to a new contract and can leave on a free this summer.

On Tammy I think much depends on who we sign this summer alongside what he shows Conte in pre season I’ve seen him at Ashton Gate in a few games this season and whilst he obviously has great potential I’m not sure he’s ready quite yet for the Chelsea first team in the PL but give him the rest of the season and a pre season with Conte and you never know particularly as Conte seems more open to giving young players a chance. It will be very interesting to see how the current regime deals with youth that go out on loan and make a success of it, hopefully we can reverse the trend of the recent past….Pagan

The football league season finishes on the 29th April, this is when Tammy’s loan deal will finish. Our season doesn’t finish until the 21st May. Does anyone know if he’ll be available for selection after his deal has finished?

Just thinking if the title is wrapped up with a game or two to spare (I’m not saying it will but just say it is), could we not give him a game or two as a starting forward leading our line for those games?

CL – as he is not part of the official registered squad my guess is that NO, he will not be available but could not be totally sure – just a guess. KTBFFH

Nice idea Lee but I don’t think a player out on loan can rejoin and play for his parent club in the PL outside of the transfer windows.

As you would expect, we see many clubs stating they are interested in taking Tammy next year with Arsenal being the latest

It is for Conte to decide what is best for Tammy but IMO, I would still be inclined to loan him to an EPL club to continue with his experience but obviously to a club more likely to give him games

Personally, I do not see him getting many chances at Arsenal but think he has more opportunity at a club like Brighton for example. I do not want to see him fail/struggle at the top level like we have seen with Bamford and while I believe that Tammy is an all round better player I would rather he played to get experience rather than warm the bench at the Bridge and get the odd domestic cup game…?

If we as a Club feel he will make it then I would give him a new contract to show our confidence and then loan him for a season, or perhaps even just 6 months just to see how he continues to develop. KTBFFH

1905 I disagree slightly I think he may just be ready however there is the chance that should he not take his opportunities he may not get much game time in that case it would be better for him to go on loan, we must be very careful how we tread here as we stand to lose our best youngsters to other big EPL clubs should the club not give them sufficient game time.

There’s more chance of Chelsea winning the CL next month than Chelsea loaning Tammy to Arsenal.

Some big decisions to be taken on Tammy this summer from what I’ve seen of him at Bristol City I’m not sure he’s quite there yet to play regularly for Chelsea.

Much depends on who we sign in the summer and what Conte thinks in pre season if Tammy is not part of the Chelsea squad this summer he needs to go to a PL club where he is guaranteed lots of game time Brighton looks a good move to me if that’s the way it goes.

We have to handle Tammy very carefully because from what I’ve seen of him he’s got a real chance of making it and has a great attitude.

I’ve never heard anyone but Americans call the ‘Premier League’ the English Premier League. Why call it EPL when it’s the PL?

As I said, I totally agree that Tammy looks much more of a player than Bamford and he does also appear to have a good grounded down to earth approach based on the few interviews I have seen

He is still of the age that a loan for a season is not the worst thing in the world for his continued education and if we gave him a contract extension as I suggested then we are clearly showing our faith in him

I also agree and stated that the decision is down to Conte and will depend on who goes and who and how many we buy for the striker role. Personally, I just do not want to see him warming a bench and then maybe get demoralised or unsettled if a club then came and offered him game time (RLC being a prime example)…?

Obviously not straightforward but at the same time it is exactly the same kind of issue that most clubs have to face especially those where the resources and money area bit thin on the ground. KTBFFH

1905, he’s humble too and always goes to the fans at the end of a game.

If we looked at the experiences re RLC this season retrospectively we would have been better off letting him go on loan he just hasn’t played enough football this season and it’s held him back imo and we have to guard against that with Tammy.

There will be a lot of games to play next season and if Tammy does well in pre season he may well stay with the first team squad next season as you rightly says it depends on who we sign and what system we play for instance playing with two strikers would mean we would need 4 in the club also what happens with Bat’s is likely to play a part too.

Big call for Conte but if Tammy doesn’t stay with us then he needs to play for a PL club and one where he has a good chance of plenty of starts. Cheers 999

Confirmed a season long loan for Tammy at Swansea plus a new 5 year contract

Looks like the club is getting its priorities right and is sending a massive message to any young player prepared to get their head down and work that the chances to the first team squad are there

Personally, I think this is the best thing for Tammy and we can all watch with interest to see his progress at Swansea and you assume that as Clement knows Tammy and his qualities that he is likely to feature in a few games – then the rest is up to him

Wish him the best of luck and trust he will return to Chelsea next season as a much more accomplished player and one who will be ready to push for the first team inclusion. KTBFFH

1905… I would laugh my arse off if he outscores our in house strikers this season. It would be like Torres all over again.. Except we’ve not signed a replacement and the panto villan still hasn’t Fuc*ed off. Tammy might be back in January if he gets ten or twelve goals between the start of the season and january.

The one thing I would say about 1905 is that at least he is consistent; for as long as I can recall his posts, he has always been a staunch supporter of the loan system. As one who admires those who maintain an almost religious faith in ideologies that, to date, show few signs of justifying such fervour I cannot take issue with him on his position on this, the Tammy Abraham thread. He has his view, I have mine. N’er the train shall meet. However, I cannot be as sanguine about the player.

I have felt, for two years now, that Abraham is possibly the one player from his Academy intake who has class that might well have developed into a genuine talent. In this he has, in my opinion, a quality only matched by Chalobah within his age group. If those Chelsea fans who persistently talk about “teams at our level”, or Chelsea standard are to be believed then sendin gold-dust to Championship club and a club perennially involved in PL survival is the equivalent of dumbing down. It is not only that I fail to see how this benefits a player, more it has demonstrably failed when tried with most others. Not only do I regard a year at Swansea City as a year wasted it may well be that such damage will be done that much of what he may have acquired will need to be undone….or more likely, he might be seen as yet another potential star who didn’t shine and finds himself going elsewhere. Mind you, 1905 talked about “club priorities” and he is right. The trouble is that our priorities seem, at present, to use our Adademy as players for revenue generation.

1905 is also right to suggest that we shall all be checking to see if Abraham is making progress…in fact he is a little more confident than that. I shall be checking too but almost from “behind the sofa” as I dread that this player becomes another casualty. For Chelsea’s sake I not only hope I am wrong….I have to be. Or else we may have to watch a potentially excellent player atrophy and a costly club facility continue being misused.
