We were beaten by a brighter, better and busier team. Philips’s red card, in my opinion was not the deciding factor. With or without him, we were always going to be convincingly beaten. Both the penalties, too, were spot on.

The truth of the matter is that we were fortunate that Brighton didn’t score more. This is not adverse or negative criticism. It’s a dose of realism, especially to many who were waxing lyrical after our Villa game. Last night’s game evinced the gap in quality between us and the front runners at this stage of the season.

The game highlighted just how thin we are in resources. After the Philips sending off, young Vieira had to battle on his own out there and Matt Grimes, when he did come on, was hardly effective.

Nevertheless, with Hernandes, Bridcutt and O’Kane to return, and more signings in January, we do look like top six contenders. Any talk of automatic promotion at this stage, however, is both premature and devoid of substance.

Reading on Tuesday night is another tough assignment.

Yep. Can’t disagree with most of that TSM but whereas I believe that we will finish in the top half of the table I struggle to see us being top 6 material. There is too much competition.

I am sure however that the gap in quality and depth between what we have currently and what the likes of Newcastle and Brighton have in abundance will have us hoping for points rather than expecting them for a good while yet.

That Hope / Expectation argument stands for the game against Brighton. That is why they are where they are and we are trying to catch up. I am afraid we will be in the same place against Reading.

We are never at the races in these kind of games but we are improving. Maybe a defeat like that will teach the youngsters a lot more than scraping a point or three. Perhaps the team will have seen how much better Brighton kept the ball and used it to great effect throughout the game.

The one glaring thing against Brighton was the way Rob Green stays glued to his goal line and seems to demonstrate no physical presence at all in the six-yard box. No team can operate on the front foot when at every corner or free kick that comes into the 18-yard area is more likely to lead to a goal than not. I am obviously no expert but surely to Goodness the shortcomings of our automatic choice keeper cannot have escaped Garry Monks attention!

Hope you guys are all well and getting into the Festive spirit (first of all).

Sorry about the result re Brighton. I’m happy Leeds are still in the mix of the play offs. Reading beat Sheff Weds that we part of my winning accumlator today 🙂

Pleasing that both Norwich and Birmingham lost. Even if Derby win tomozz, it’ll be the Sheffield side that will drop out of the zone.

Keep your spirits up Gentlemen, and keep the faith.

    Cheers 🙂

    HiSense

Festive greetings to you, too, and trusting that you’re well.

I’m still smarting from Friday evenings defeat (the pain always takes a few days to work itself outa my system). You would have guessed it: the Leeds United faithful have, over the last 14 years or so, become chronic sufferers. There has, nevertheless, been a glimmer of hope this season which we’re grateful for. No one would have predicted a top six position, come December, after our terrible start to the season.

I watched the highlights of your game against West Ham. It’s a pity you couldn’t make all that possession, in the second half, count. One point, nevertheless, is better than none and you’re right up there in the mix.

To, Phoenix: I am also worried about Tuesday evenings game against the Royals. They’re a formidable side when they get going and have lots of ammunition in their midfield. I’m trying to figure out what side Monk is going to put out.

We’re definitely need more effort from Wood and Roofe. They need to track back more often and get involved in the build-up play. Lurking in the opposition half and waiting for opportunities is non-productive. They were virtual passengers on Friday evening.

    Thanks tsm.

Don’t be too disheartened about Brighton as they and Newcastle in fairness are probably head and shoulders above the rest of the pack. You’ve got a home game midweek against the Royals who I think just about got over the finishing line playing Sheff-Weds (I think they have a key player suspended).

A win would narrow that gap in those play-off places and of course keep you in the mix which is ultimately what you’ve got to try and maintain a handle of. I totally get your pain tsm, so chin up and hopefully, you guys will bounce back.

    Cheers
