Paxman, QPR, Birmingham City, Luton Town, Oxford United and Swindon Town have all been underdogs that have truimphed in Wembley League Cup Finals not that I would put Liverpool in their category.

I really don’t see Liverpool as an underdog in this Final, City are the favourites because man for man they have the stronger team but if City don’t turn up and there have been plenty of examples of that this season and Liverpool play to their capabilities and perhaps more importantly take their chances there is every chance of a Liverpool victory.

However if City play similarly to the way they played v Kiev on Wednesday night and Liverpool get anywhere near their best form it will be a difficult one to call imo.

As a neutral I’m hoping for a great Final and I think it has the makings of being that and perhaps a 5-4 either way.? Cheers 999

I strongly fancy City as Liverpool can not contain Aguero. He is the difference.

I will watch the game purely for entertainment value but could not care less who wins or loses.

999 – Oxford were not massive underdogs they were playing QPR and both teams were first division.

QPR we are going back to 1967 when many of the top team didn’t enter Liverpools didn’t until the 67/68 season.

Luton were also first division when they won it, the main thing I am trying to say is the underdogs have lost at Wembley more often than they have won.

Although I hope this time that we can upset the odds, who are you going to be backing mate 🙂

Paxman, Oxford United were a point away from being relegated from the First Division in 1986 so they were very much an underdog club winning the League Cup.

It’s a mute point anyway because Liverpool are anything but underdogs on Sunday albeit that City are the favourites.

999 – I think when we are talking about under dogs and cup upsets teams in the same division don’t count, but that completely backs up your point that Liverpool are not under dogs, and yes City are favourites, but there are favourites in pretty much every football match but you wouldn’t say there is always and under dog. If favourites always won I would win my acca’s every week.

Pax, “underdogs” didn’t come from me but from Nil.

Liverpool are definitely not underdogs and tbh I couldn’t call it on Sunday.

If Liverpool play close to how they did at the Etihad and take their chances which has been a problem recently they have a great chance of picking up the trophy imo.

Up to Wednesday night City have looked a shadow of their former selves but on Wednesday night they looked like the real deal again and if they bring their CL form to Wembley it will be a very tough game for Liverpool imo.

Being a neutral I’m just going to sit back and enjoy it all and may the best team on the day win it, hopefully eithout any controversies! Cheers 999

999 – Yeah it should be a good game, taking out chances as you say has been an issue, it has been feast or famine this season, we have sored 6 twice, and 4 against City at their place but the other games that we should win comfortably we just seem to have no composure in front of goal.
The only two players with composure in front of goal seem to be Sturridge and Firmino, everyone else seems to just blaze it over or at the keeper, it either that or hesitate and the defender gets a block in.

    Thanking Nine and TTP for their kind thoughts;

    I’d love to type on record “yeah, we’ll be alright, we’ll get there”, but last season under a certain Brendan Rodgers, every other weekend otherwise led to upset;

They’d be say a 12:45 game on tv; we’d end up either losing or drawing, and then would follow the same idiotic platitudes from the post-match interviews.

Believe me, in admittance, I’ve taken more pleasure from the progress of my local team and they are not even Barcelona.

For this so called Mickey Mouse trophy, I’d be gutted if we were to lose.

But of course if we were to win, I’d simply be thankful and thrilled.

Nothing in this life to take for granted. Cheers

Robbie Savage analysed both teams in the Daily Mirror today and in selecting a combined Liverpool/City team he selected just one Liverpool player in Couthino.

    Team:

    Hart

    Zabeleta
    Kompany
    Otamendi
    Clichy

    Toure
    Fernandinho

    Coutinho
    Silva
    Sterling

    Aguero

If I was Klopp I would stick that up in the Wembley dressing room tomorrow!

Nine, Phil Thompson and Charlie Nicholas did the same and I think both only had 3 players from Liverpool in their team.

Player for player, city are much better. We will need them to have a bit of an off day for us to win but I’m fairly optimistic about tomorrow. I just hope we give it our all and have another display like we did in the fa cup semi final. Lucas should start for me as can and h bed rain is not working at all. We need our big players to really turn up tomorrow

Sean, I would definitely use it all to motivate my players though mate if I was Klopp.

But you’re right Sean man for man City are the stronger side and for Liverpool to win tomorrow they probably do need for City to be off colour almost as much as Liverpool need to be on colour.

City have looked poor at times this season and particularly over the previous few weeks but City looked ominously good on Wednesday night and almost back to their best and a repeat of that form tomorrow would make life difficult for Liverpool.

I think it’s shaping up to be a great Final and I’m really looking forward to it, may the best team on the day win and may it be free of any controversy.

    Enjoy it mate.Cheers 999

Going for Liverpool, barr Fernandinho City have a lethargic midfield and its a big pitch. Even if Sturridge is 70% he still be better then Benteke. Liverpools movement will be to much for City.
