If the latest rumors are to be believed, then it seems Conte is a goner even before the season ends if Chelsea were to be knocked out of the Champions league. the claim is that he has lost the dressing room and Roman’s plus the board support due to his falling out with Luiz and Costa . so if Conte goes, who do we replace him with?, i enjoyed watching the team last year but once the 3-5-1-1 formation was figured out by the opposition teams ( beginning of last year ), he didn’t have a plan B and our play became predictable and the decline started.
The names we are being linked include Luis Enreque, Ancelloti and Sarri of Napoli.
Discuss.February 4, 2018 at 3:41 pm #1594306So it appears every Chelsea manager at some point in time will lose the dressimg room not to mention the board. If that is true what then is the point of hiring another manager. Who is stupid enough to inherit this poison chalice.
February 4, 2018 at 3:58 pm #1594318Spot on Blueowner, what is the point of appointing another one if he will lose the board first, then the players. there is no point in appointing a high profile manager. this time if we want to end this player power once and for all. the club need to come out strongly and show support to the manager. i feel they left the manager exposed to the media. why is someone not coming out to deny these rumours? I will be disappointed if we lose another manager because of player power. Luiz and others who want him should be sold. just to send a message. every time a manager wins the league, the board dismantles his team, and make his defence of the title over before it even starts.
February 4, 2018 at 4:35 pm #1594334Aren’t the rumours of player power coming from ESPN Brazil?
The problems with Conte relate almost entirely to conflict over transfer policy and Conte resigned as manager of Juve in 2015 after a clash with the Juventus hierarchy over transfer policy, a feud Italian Federation President Carlo Tavecchio confirmed in an interview.
“Juve and Conte didn’t have a good relationship. He has a very strong personality, and things were complicated by an economic dispute between him and the club.”
February 4, 2018 at 4:49 pm #1594339The disconnect is between Conte and the Board regarding transfers for sure, i have seen an interview by Conte where he says he rather Chelsea bought 2-3 world class players rather than assembling 8 squad players ( most of them injury laden i should add ) who don’t improve the team.
you all put up very valid points as to why we keep hiring managers if the Board will undermine them and dictates the incoming/outgoing players, might as well stop hiring managers at all.February 4, 2018 at 4:55 pm #1594342Agree totally with the sentiment guys. It is not always the coach who is at fault. The player power at Chelsea is an issue. As for any coach taking it on, maybe extremely smart move as opposed to stupid.
Think about it, if RA wants you he will see you as the next big thing and will offer you silly money. Whilst at the same time you the world and it’s wife are looking at Chelsea saying …. back the coach … back the coach. So your dilemma is … (given the severe lack of big team coaching positions available at the minute) do I remain unemployed until the season ends and then join the rat race post world cup sackings or do i sign a medium term multi million pound contract at Chelsea, who are so badly run, knowing I will eventually be sacked and HEAVILY compensated for same, leaving with my reputation in tact, as they didnt back the coach and people rolling their eyes at Chelsea YET AGAIN!!!
February 4, 2018 at 6:09 pm #1594380Zizi, the confusing thing about the latest quotes from Conte today saying that he would have rather bought 2/3 world class players is that in the Summer he was saying our squad was too small?
As you rightly say the current problems with Conte is more about a disconnect between him and the Board more than anything else. Cheers 999
February 4, 2018 at 6:39 pm #15944139,Yeah that’s what’s confusing as it seems he’s changing his mind quite often regarding the size of the squad v/s quality additions during his many unnecessary interviews where he’s always blaming the Board or having a slight dig at the way our transfers are handled, could the real Antonio Conte please stand up!

February 4, 2018 at 7:26 pm #1594467Zizi and 9 firstly I never believe a “quote” unless I hear it on tv on radio from the mans mouth, also you have to take into account that English is not his first language and this can lead to the perceived confusion. Zizi please define and show me proof of “his many unnecessary interviews”. My wife works in PR and communication and all interviews at his level have to be pre arranged and approved. Hand on heart can either of you state that over the last number of seasons Chelseas actions in the transfer market have adequately strengthend the first team squad?
February 4, 2018 at 7:38 pm #1594485I will be disappointed if we sack Conte. But i will even be more disappointed than if we don’t appoint Carlo. He is the safe option at the minute and he was at Chelsea before. Which means he doesn’t require adaptation period. And he will not moan.😊
February 4, 2018 at 8:20 pm #1594508CMan, me too mate but I’ve been disappointed with how Conte has been handling himself of late but all this mirrors his final days and exit at Juve almost exactly and they were his team too.

I think the frustration is getting the better of him. Its understandable when you win the league, and you don’t get the support you hoped.say the first choice plyers that you had been scouting for months. Like you he sometimes frustrates me about his outbursts at a times. But flip the coin on the other side. And this trend has been going with our last 3 title winning managers. We said Carlo is too nice, we said Mourinho is too hot tempered. The 3 bosses can’t be wrong. Something needs to be fixed. Because like someone posted. Without resolving the issues that led to the departure of the former boss, you can’t appoint another. Personally i’m in the camp that believes Conte needs to be retained. And given powers to end this silly system. But if the club is reluctant to do that. I would want Carlo. But my heart says Conte is the right man.
February 4, 2018 at 11:19 pm #1594570Chelsea man you are spot on – we should not be kicking Antinio out. Those who do have been conned by the club who i believe have undermined the manager. He earned the right to decide who he wants as all top managers do. He will believe he is as good as Pep and look how he is treated by City. I understand his demeanour and frustrstions – imagine your bosses doing all they can to make you fail. I still dream that Antonio is given the power he wants and it can all be turned around – but deep down i know its all over and we will have another manager through the revolving door. Pathetic but i am a Blue and will still be back for more and i guess our owner knows that we fans do just that.
February 4, 2018 at 11:32 pm #1594571Gotta wonder about the contracts our managers sign. They earn a fortune and must have access to the best employment law specialists money can buy. Surely a manager will stipulate that all players signed, loaned or sold…will have him as the final decision maker. The club decides on the finances and affordability..NOT the actual player. Are our managers having to agree to make player recommendations only…if so that’s insane. If I was a gaffer I would insist having complete player control…its the only way a manager can then be held 100% accountable if the team fails to perform. If 80% of our squad aren’t Conte players then how can Conte be held 100% responsible. Thats not right. Conte is far from perfect but if he gets fired within the next few weeks…wow that’s harsh.
February 5, 2018 at 7:44 am #1594607Stuilse, that’s the bit in all of of this I don’t get Chelsea knew of Conte’s problems over transfer policy at Juve and knew he walked over it and Conte knew how transfer policy worked at Chelsea before either party put pen to paper on the contract.
February 5, 2018 at 7:53 am #1594610Only one manager has really turned down Chelsea and that was pep
Be plenty takers just for financial gain as opposed to any real career move
Conte will be no different He will wait for his pay off and back to the Italy job.February 5, 2018 at 7:56 am #1594611NI Blue, just for the record mate I’m a massive fan of Conte the Coach and will be disappointed should he go but unfortunately Conte the man has sat in front of the media every week in his pre and post match press conferences all of which are on TV and regularly repeated on Sky and criticised the Board and the owner over the club’s transfer policy and whilst he might be right in what he says in any business you can’t publicly criticise your employer.
He should have put his case on transfer policy to Roman and the Board in private and the public airing of all of this by Conte is what has caused the problems and unfortunately it will probably only end in one way now.
February 5, 2018 at 8:00 am #1594614Pylon, spot on on all points mate although some have perhaps seen it as a career move AVB for instance and dear old Avram.😊
