In many ways, this is a valedictory post because, finally, I have decided to ‘hang up my keyboard’. This will be my Last Post….thankfully without the bugle. No, there is no issue (as was evident in RDP’s farewell) and I leave with good memories (but, as in life itself a few sad moments); I leave without rancour and good wishes to all who post in good faith on the site associated with ‘my’ team….CHELSEA. It comes to us all so no sadness, please. I am just too ancient to be able to enter into the cut and thrust of debate(which is why I have commented recently in ‘set-pieces) and I know when I am tired because I find I can no longer raise the energy to comment. Also, my time is being usurped by other, mundane, matters. But, before I go, just a thought or two.

Recently I commented that two threads should be combined….Looking Forward and The Reality. As a club, we have reached a cross road; we have to take stock and to some extent re-form…..and this must be done in the light of Reality. No more ‘patching’, no more assuming that because our squad has won the PL it is good enough to do so again unrefreshed. No more status quo or laissez-faire in the boardroom. We need a root and branch reassessment as to where we are and what needs to be done. And I must repeat…..this may not be possible in one fell swoop. It means transition….a word which seems to scare some fellow posters, one of whom paarently confuses the radical changes I see as necessary with what they feel is my advocacy to develop our youth. For that poster and others I say that Manchester City’s marginal season last year WAS transitional even though they did not blood one player from their academy; it was Guardiola reshaping his squad and his tactical mind to their new reality and spending vast sums of money to refresh his club. I do not propose that Chelsea should do this because the message has come out loud and clear that we are no longer willing or able to spend to Mancunian levels…hence y wish to see very talented youth deployed. Mind you, FFP2 may re-set the spending intentions of us all, particularly if new rules address the favoured status of those clubs who “bend the rules”! Changes must be made in our boardroom….both in mind-set and composition. We now have a CEO who is closer to sports management than hitherto but I do wonder if a working knowledge of the workings of the Toronto Maple Leafs equips you to run. top European enterprise like Chelsea Football Club. A football specific person is required to be our DoF. The link between Board and Coach clear….and really quite URGENTLY. And if or when the coach says we need certain players to compete he should be listened to….no matter what might have been agreed as to his status at interview. As with players, all this might take time so we must have patience. The search for “jam today” has, for too long put the chances of “jam tomorrow” at risk.

So now I must go. It has been (mostly) fun. I sincerely wish you all well and although, as with us all, it is out of my hands I hope to be able to follow the fortunes of our club well into the future and get the pulse of the fans through this site. GOODBYE.

Palms, very sad to read your post. Your words of wisdom are much valued on here and I echo Blueowners post above just pop on the site whenever you feel up to it a couple of lines of your insightful thoughts are worth more than one hundred lines from any of the rest of us on here.

Personally speaking please stay in touch. Best Regards 999.

ps I would have merged the threads as you suggested but I wasn’t confident that we wouldn’t lose them.

I think Palmeabs words are so true and after todays defeat to Man U are even more poignant!
I think all us fans need to wake up and realise that we as a club will mot be spending big in the future and as such will have to compete with what we have got including the kids. As much as it pains me to say Liverpool are showing that it is not necessary to spend hundreds of millions to play great attacking football. Whilst they wont win the league they are nearer to it than us. Is that because their manager is listened to over acquisitions? We are in danger of becoming irrelevant as far as winning things will become. I want to know who now is making decisions about future signings given the manager is on the way out? Is it Marina? What is her qualification to select future players? We need to have a DOF that will work with the manager and preferably with a Chelsea background like Zola or Viali. I am sorry to say that i think our ride of success is over as our owner has changed his strategy which he is entitled to do and i guess we all need to adjust

With a heavy heart, I have to agree with this. I cannot see RA spending like crazy like before. I don’t know for what reasons, but if I were him: I would really be disappointed to have spent on players like de Bruyne, Lukaku, Salah etc just to see them being sold for cheap and then shining while playing for our rivals.

We are going backwards. We sold Costa and replaced him by an inferior striker in Morata. We sold Matic and bought Baka and Drinkwater. And we will lose Hazard and Courtois it seems.

Fans cannot expect anymore that we compete with the big 4 or 5. We will play young players next season to rebuild. We’ve won 2 times after Lampard’s era (Drogba, JT etc) and that’s a stretch already

The future of Chelsea football club is shroud in mystery because that’s the way we operate best.
Our history is known to have plateau and troughs. We might even win the league next year.
Just relax and enjoy the ride.

Its in the past but all who were involved in us losing the likes of Salah, de Bruyne, Lukuka, Mata, etc. should be burned at the stake. The club showed a terrible lack of foresight, wisdom and basic football knowledge in letting these players go. There are no excuses. Some responsible have left after all the damage they caused but some are still at the club.

The thing is I can take the transition period. I can take the fact the club don’t want to spend. What I can’t take is as a club us selling our youngsters for peanuts without being given a chance.

We talk about selling Matic and bringing in Drinkwater & Baka? But why did we feel the need to do that. We had Chalobah. Yes he was entering the last year of his contract but we only got £5m for him. I don’t understand why we didn’t keep him, & if he didn’t step up, just let him go in the free. If he did set up & played he would’ve signed a new contract.

Pedro. What has he done this season, what someone like Hudson-Odio couldn’t do? RLC. I’d rather him than Baka. The club is a joke and it needs to make a decision on what it’s going to do & spell it out to the next manager who walks in thinking he’s got millions to spend. I now want our young lads given a chance & if it means we miss out on the top 4 for a couple of years so be it. Let’s all be honest, we might not make the top 4 this season with so called superstars.

Can we recall.Musonda from his loan? Before anyone tells me again, what have Musonda or RLC done during their loans. What did Kane do during his loan spells? We don’t learn as a club & that’s what annoys me so much.

I supported the club before RA & I’ll support it no matter what but please can there be some kind of guidance from the board on where the club is going & it’s aims.

CL – the Club clearly has a policy that they are following. You can rant and rave about Musonda, RLC and even Chalobah but these players either have not done enough or did not want to stay

In the case of Chalobah – what else are the Club expected to do apart from offer a lucrative new long term contract to the player. If he turns that down then maybe he is not the player for us. And what is worrying is that we let him go to a big rival of ours – ooops sorry, it was “just” Watford with no interest from any of the so called big clubs so we did we actually get it majestically wrong…? As it happens, I am in your camp with this one (and Ake BTW) as I would have loved the Club to keep both of them but circumstances dictated otherwise…

As for Musonda and RLC it is the managers call and he obviously did not think enough of either of them (and he coaches/d them every day so has a far better understanding than us mere mortals) to replace established first team players like Pedro (who agree has been poor this season)

Like all these decisions we rely on the knowledge and experience of the manager in situ to make the right call. We know that Jose made mistakes and potentially so has Conte but this is what is paid for

I would say it is possible things may change as my understanding is that the current structure is being reviewed until the end of the season to how it goes and if Roman deems changes are required as the season has gone badly then it may happen – but it will be his call. KTBFFH

Players fans awards… Clearly some fans are special, they deserve an award for their sterling work supporting the team they claim to support, so without any further mention, Never knowingly undersold as having an opinion that is completely and utterly wrong… Step up Phwepsi to collect the two top honours this year for his supporters who dont follow the teams they claim to.

You pick up this years Cone of shame award for this cracker…

“chalobah hasnt played for watford all season. He cant get in the team”

The reality is somewhat different… as laid out by his broken kneecap sustained early in the season and has unknown return date….

    Cone of shame award

You also pick up the award for best oxygen thief for your classic comment on RLC.

No wonder people are giving up on this site when a very badly informed “fan” denigrates others for being wrong when you pull out classics like above. Going to go talk to Chelsea.man…

Ok Roman and Phwepsi let’s not get into any more conflict’s!

Everyone is a tad disappointed currently and we certainly don’t need any more problems on the site.

Roman you need to let it go mate and then come back on the site being the poster we all know you really are. Cheers 999

I totally agree with the Moderator there. there is no need of more conflicts. Roman you need to let it go mate. the fact that we have a different opinion doesn’t make us enemies buddy. I have no idea why Chelsea.man left the site and would like to plead with him to stay. but if he feels he couldn’t handle the situation fair play to him.

we all could do with some inspiration now and a post from Palmeab would help. Very depressing as it appears very likely we are not going to qualify for next seasons CL not to mention we have a massive uphill task against Barca away. Think we also have been unlucky this season in more ways then only on the field.

notnice – not as negative as you on this one but only time will tell. I am hoping/expecting that the improved performances over the last few days will allow us to have a strong finish to the season and I still think we can make the top 4

As for Barca away, simply score and then keep them out. Simples….!! KTBFFH
