Our next run of games up to Jan are basically gonna define our season. The City match is the last of our tough aways. Every team that finished above us last season will have been played away from home plus Everton and Stoke.
Now is the time we must find consistency and improve our home form while maintaining our not too shabby away form.
It will either be Spurs or us that finish 4th this season and as recent history tells us, Spurs tend to finish above us. We need to rectify that.
No team has ever come from Chelsea’s position to finish 4th. While it’s not impossible, it’s highly unlikely.
We lament about our inability to financially compete with the likes of Chelsea and how the deck is stacked in their favour, well they’ve messed up big time this season so we need to take advantage of that. We did it in 13/14 when Utd changed manager but failed to cement our position when we f**ked up that summers transfers…..let’s not f**k this one up.November 17, 2015 at 12:51 pm #708721Good post Ginger, All We need to do is concentrate on Finishing as High as possible and hopefully put a good Cup Run together whether it’s the EL, F.A. Cup or the Capital One Cup, We have the capability to do well and although it’s still early days for Jurgen I think He can lead us to a better finish to the season, One downside has obviously been the Injuries but Once they start to come back into the fold then We will be in a better place.
November 17, 2015 at 1:02 pm #708742I still think chelsea can recover Ginger, they are only 6 points off us. They get to jan with jose still there then they will buy big. I think spurs will fade even though they look strong at the minute.Pochs teams run out of steam in the 2nd half of the season and the squad lacks real depth. Maybe this season maybe different for them as they do have some good young fit players. Kane gets injured and its could be a problem for them.
I agree that its great to have all the tough away games out of the way but its the so called easier games that seem to be the worry. Dropping points at home to west ham, norwich and palace. They are games we should be winning. I fancy us on sat to give city a real game. We seem to be set up better to play away from home. We are creating more chances now though. We created plenty againest palace.
Defensive mistakes and indivdual erros are still killing us. The manager cant coach people out of making bassic mistakes. The players just have to cut them out.We make to many. Be interesting to see were we are come the 1st of jan. I can see us improving but i still think we will struggle to get into the top 4. I just want to see us keep improving and winning the games we should be.Its going to take at least until next season when klopp has his own players for his ideas to fully replicate across the team.
November 17, 2015 at 1:23 pm #708784No team has ever done it before Sean. Look at the wealth of players Mourinho currently has at his disposal. Chelsea’s problem is not a personnel problem, it’s a Mourinho problem.
Spurs has finished above us 5 outta the last 6 seasons.
It’s gonna between us and them.November 17, 2015 at 5:06 pm #709153I hope you’re right. Chelsea have Norwich in sat and we have city. In my opinion I think Chelsea have to many good players not to improve. Time will tell.
It is a huge chance for us though. We just need to start picking up wins in a regular basis now. Pity city have sugero and silva back but I really do think we can get something if we perform like we have done in recent weeks
November 17, 2015 at 5:33 pm #709156If we lose against City and Chelsea win, they will be 3 points behind with 2/3rds of the season still to play for.
I certainly wouldn’t bet against Chelsea will be in the mix for 4th.
I also think Klopp has agreed an acceptable table position finish with the club. He is absolutely correct to simply state to the fans, press and the players, “one game at a time”, but he will have his own target.
November 20, 2015 at 6:11 am #712297Chelsea will still be in the mix for me and will be fighting for 4th. As others have said if we don’t beat city and they win there’s not a lot in it.
Thou I agree moanio is a problem at the moment, I personally think it is s long blip and they will come back. Whilst things usually go sour with moanio it isn’t usually this quick and no matter what I think of him and his style of football, by hook or by crook he will get them winning again imho.
November 20, 2015 at 10:19 am #712792Why is everyone being so shortsighted and only looking at the next game??
This City game marks the last of our tough aways FOR THE REST OF THE SEASON. When I say tough I mean against those teams who finish above us plus Everton and Stoke, of course there will be other difficult matches but we’ve came through that period so far and have done alright. I’d like to think we can now start regularly picking up 3 points and climb up the table.November 20, 2015 at 10:24 am #712816I hear shat your saying ginger but we have dropped a lot of silly points already this season. We have winnable games after the city game but they are no were givens. We have struggled to beat teams we should be all season.
Newcastle , Watford, west brom, Swansea, Leicester and Sunderland we should be winning but there will be slip ups along the way. Until we start winning these games then I don’t expect us to get 4th.
November 20, 2015 at 10:59 am #712915Of course there’s gonna be tough games left and we’ve dropped points where we shouldn’t have (mostly under Rodgers) but the advantage now swings to us.
Chelsea are dropping points home and away for fun and are well off the pace however Spurs are going strong and haven’t lost since opening day but they still have to do several tough aways including us.
I’m not saying “we are gonna finish 4th” I’m saying the opportunities there but it’s up to us to take it. I’ve already said Spurs have finished above us 5 outta the last 6 seasons so if you were a betting man your money should be going there but I think we are gonna have momentum on our side.
If we finish 5th so be it!November 20, 2015 at 11:52 am #713059I agree the opportunity certainly is there. Be very interesting to see were we after the West Ham game on the 2nd.
November 20, 2015 at 1:11 pm #713197sean, you make a good point if Liverpool are serious contenders to qualify for the CL and they are then Chelsea despite an awful start are but 6 points behind.
Ginger is also right in pointing out that nobody has done it before from where Chelsea are which is of course true but then has anybody before been in the position that Chelsea are with the strength of squad that Chelsea have.
It’s a very big mountain to climb but even the bookies haven’t totally written Chelsea off here are the odds for finishing in the top 4. Spurs 6/4, Liverpool 9/4 and Chelsea 7/2.
For it to happen Chelsea would need to start winning now and probably make a couple of key signings in January which currently Jose is denying will happen but of course he’s said that before.
Hand on heart I think it’s probably too big an ask from where Chelsea are now but if it were to happen it would not only make PL history but eould imo probably be one of Jose’s finest achievements. Cheers 999
November 20, 2015 at 2:00 pm #713383Id disagree with that slightly 999 (unusual as it is;)
I agree to an extent it would be a fine achievement but for me it is not as great as you would have it.
My reasons for this are:
you are CURRENT PL CHAMPIONS!
You have one of (if not THE) best squads and starting 11’s in the PL
You have a top manager
You have not had a bad summer of losing big players or change of manager etcCurrently you are only 13 points off of 4th place and NO team including City are blowing teams away every week and there is a lot of teams taking points off each other.
In previous years with your start and current points you could expect to be 19-20 points off.
We have also seen many times before weaker teams make up as big if not bigger points gaps to either reach 4th or win the PL with less of the season to play.
The point is your club, players, manager should not be where they are now as champs and how good we all know they really are so to suddenly play as they SHOULD and put together the sort of run they do EVERY season anyway, whether its form the front or not is far form unthinkable
only question is can the manager and players turn it around to play as they should to achieve this?
If this was X-mas with less of the season to go then yes, but currently? still to early even with that points gap for a team like yours
cheers
November 20, 2015 at 2:01 pm #713398stevo, all fair points mate.
November 20, 2015 at 2:21 pm #713455how very dare you Sir!
😉
November 20, 2015 at 2:22 pm #713458forgot about Courtois as well, BIG loss and may have a BIG impact when back, just seeing the difference Cech has made for us shows that!
November 20, 2015 at 6:53 pm #713842It’s not just about one game, history or no history Chelsea will climb the league with the players they have, disharmony or not ….
November 20, 2015 at 7:46 pm #713860Will they climb to 4th though Bob, that’s the question?
November 20, 2015 at 10:06 pm #713932Ginger: we are struggling at home against the so called lesser teams so having the “big” away games over is no comfort. I agree with bob in that there is far to long to go in the season to suggest chelski won’t make up the points to reach top 4. Spurs are obviously the best shot & they are playing well.
This season a cup is the best we will get as I think we will finish 5th or 6th but will improve as the season goes on. Next season I can see us challenging for a top 4 spot.November 20, 2015 at 10:15 pm #713938Aussie, they will improve between now & January & then strengthen in the window. We need to stay ahead of them if we want top four. It will be a close one this season YNWA
