The problem when analysing Jose and this United team is they don’t get afforded any of the excuses that Liverpool, Chelsea or Spurs get. Just look at Mac’s Post above.
“Chelsea have under performed, Liverpool took too long to get going and Spurs had a wobble”.
Fantastic! Brilliant excuses for why we’re ahead of them, they were just unlucky you see.
So really we scraped second because the other teams were in a mess. So we’re licky we got second really aren’t we.
But City are worthy winners of the title of course. They’re not lucky that we dropped about 16 silly points against teams we should have beaten. No that’s not the case. It’s only the other teams that can have these “wobbles” you see. Not us, we’re not allowed.

You forget the matches we won non deserved.
There are many games we have been lucky to win, lucky decisions from referees, poor finishes from opponents, the timing to meet the right teams at the right time when they have keymen injured. There are many factors to take in when you judge a season but one thing we can be sure of is the football we have produced is DIRE!

@happyhurling — It is tiresome having to explain concepts to you. If you are in a 5 horse race (we can write Arsenal off from the start) and 3 balk at fences such that they lose tremendous ground, YES we can give credit to our horse for not screwing up, BUT …. here’s my problem ….

we should not infer from the result that we are better in comparison to the others than we may actually be. Your simplistic mindset concludes, yes were better, we finished higher. And that’s a milestone, infering that the next step is to finish 1st.

I’m saying, come the next race those 3 horses may not make the same mistake and we could very easily finish 3rd or 4th or even 5th.

Moyes 7th. In comes LvG and we’re 4th. Progress, a milestone, heading in the right direction folk like you said. Then next season it’s not 3rd or 2nd, its 5th. Ooops the milestone theory goes out the window.

Are Brighton a better team than us. NO. They won because we underperformed. You take simplistic viewpoints relying on simplistic dataset without looking deeper. By your stats we have low goals conceded so that means for you our defence must be strong.

It is pointless debating with you because you have a simple agenda, anything United must be great and anything to do with other clubs is shite or unfair.

PS – At least I conceded a pat on the back may be deserved. Other posters wouldn’t give them that.

Mac – But it’s always the same. Even when we were winning the league it was because “City crumbled” or “Chelsea shot themselves in the foot”. Very rarely was an excuse not made for our success on here. And again, how are Liverpool and Spurs just given passes because they “started slowly” or “had a wobble”. I don’t think there are many people out there (Zico aside obviously) who don’t think United have been the second best team this season. Despite Liverpool’s fantastic recent form and Spurs looking good at various stages throughout the season.
And stop creating biased analogy’s that aren’t related to what we’re talking about. Liverpool/Spurs didn’t fall at a fence they just weren’t as fast as us throughout the entire race and we finished ahead of them because our jockey is from Kerry and is really light because he only eats potatoes and cabbage.

We might have finished 2nd in the PL but we are a poor 6th in terms of quality of football being played and yes, that means behind Arsenic as well imo. Below sums up our dinosaur of a manager quite well:

If your opinion is that we’re worse than Arsenal, who have not picked up any away points in 2018, then all of my previous thoughts about you have been proved absolutely spot on – simple as that!

    @happyhurling

1] Its not always the same. Back in the day we used to do a City, not only winning but winning convincingly and beating top teams at their best, not because they played poorly. You always forget those years. Perhaps you were not on the forum. In recent years it may seem the team doesn’t get the credit it deserves but be honest, they haven’t been good for a long time. Its only you who think we’re good even when we’re not.

2] Pool and Spurs are not being given “passes”. Nobody said that. They screwed up and its their fault. BUT, as I said, in sport if somebody benefits from another’s misfortune you don’t pat yourself on the back for your achievement. (maybe you do).

btw – In Lvg season, we suffered greatly from injuries which doubtless had an adverse effect. IF that was bad luck (not LvG training) then it would be fair to say it would be harsh to blame LvG for our poor league position. You were the first to bleat about how results were skewed as a result.

3] Your view (as always) is simplistic based on results and stats. We are 2nd so yes, you could say we have been second best overall in terms of results. BUT and here’s where we differ. You take that as a milestone (achievement) and indication of progress.

4] Its not a biased analagy. Its a competive sporting one, the principle is the same in all competetive sport. The result is not just how well you do its how well/poorly the others do. I race you when you come out of the pub pissed, I’ll win and conclude I’m a faster runner at my age than you. Fall at the fence means … they underperformed for whatever reason.

PS – And Liverpool have done better in the CL than us. Does that mean they are better than us. Its not a simple as you are my friend.

As usual happy, you throw your own utterly one eyed biased interpretation of what I actually said. Let me repeat in CAPITALS so that you might understand “IN TERMS OF QUALITY OF FOOTBALL BEING PLAYED”. If we had played as well against the mighty Seville as Arsenic played against A. Madrid we would have won the tie comfortably. Arsenic have been very poor away from home but so have we. They pass the ball fluently and create chances, we don’t. Anyway, I’m no fan of Arsenic or any of the other top 5 but I’m big enough to acknowledge that they play better football than we do unfortunately.

Mourinho’s brief was only ever a short term one…stop the free fall after a decade and more of shit decisions at board level and years of appalling management by Moyes and van Gaal. Steady the ship, make us more competitive and win us some trophies along the way.

He also inherited one of the most bloated, mismatched and immature United squads in living memory. A sad and sorry hotch potch. You silly virgins thinking anybody could come in and wave a magic wand and start playing calypso football within two years are deluded.

Mourinho has steadied the ship, took us to our best league finish since 2013 and won two trophies with the promise of another next week. I’ve a long list of things he’s pissed me off with and some of the football has been shite. But I have had some great moments this season and I can’t see another manager out there who could have done better in the circumstances. Except maybe that bald Catalan cunt…but he shirks a challenge and took the blood money on offer in Beswique.

Anyway, I think some of you are exaggerating the situation as you have always done and others are just naive and have known no better. If we’re having this conversation in a year Mourinho will be gone. Even if we have a blinding season I think the most he’ll be here for is two more seasons. But hopefully he’ll hand over a football team in far better condition than the comedy shit show he inherited…perhaps to a young man not a million miles away from from M16.

A pat on the back from me though.

Yeah, won titles, not runners up by a long way. Big difference. Don’t remember schmeichel being by far our player of the season year on year.

That’s not the point you were making though is it you wool? You were essentially saying we’d have had far less points if it wasn’t for de Gea and it’s exactly the same with Schmeichel way back when. Having a world class goalie who saves you fifteen points a season isn’t a crime…unless you’re a dick trying to say things, any things, according to an agenda.

It has been a good season, we’ve had good games and bad games, which one weighs more on a scale depends on what kind of a fan you are..I won’t get into that debate but I’ll say this, right now we need Mourinho, I don’t think there’s any other manager who actually has the mentality to wake up every morning and stil try to get something out of our players. Right now, he is our best choice of winning anything next season, first we get to winning ways, get in some league medals then start improving the style of play or we’ll just be like Arsenal almost 15 years without a league medal and they seem to be content..oh the horror
