I feel like we are heading for what could be our most disappointing/ damaging transfer window ever. It is nothing to do with paper talk or lack of action to date its not because i’m panicking and wanting instant big signings!

My problem is to do with the main man, Mr Pulis! when TP was appointed one of the terms of his appointment was that he had full control over transfers and so the technical director role was abolished. It was reintroduced by Jeremy peace and we now have Nick Hammond in charge of scouting. a complete waste whilst pulis is in charge. Tony Pulis only likes to buy domestic based players with premier league experience. Thats great, it makes sense however it is not realistic! British players come at a premium and cost probably 25% more than players from elsewhere. It now appears that even after the take over we are working on a budget. We can’t afford to pay over the odds when we are on a budget. Furthermore these British based players with prem experience who are good enough are few and far between! Clubs dont want to sell them

TP is heading into his 6th transfer window now and our squad is thread bare. That is his doing, not JP not the new owners. The players who fall into his narrow specific criteria seem to be available at a rate of one per window!

Before anyone throws rondon into the mix who was signed under pulis I believe this was a deal done by the club.

We have seen with all the money now that everyone in the prem has spending power or the ability to compete wage wise and not be forced into selling players.

We are in a pool of teams from 8th to 24th in the prem who I believe could all finish anywhere within that mini league. We need to be wise as a club and not stubborn. We need to be scouting and searching for value for money, exploring all avenues to improve the squad otherwise we will be overtaken and left behind.

Whilst his performances had dipped losing darren fletcher in my opinion could have detrimental effect off the field. He was our club captain and chose a sideways move to stoke. we apparently matched the wages. So why was it that he left. I would guess at (and from his comments on signing for stoke) that it was the attitude of the manager/club. Darren Fletcher has grown up and developed his whole career at Fergusens United. He is a winner! he’s be tought to except nothing less than winning. Not go out defend and try not to lose and hopefully we will score a set piece! and whilst stoke don’t win every week they probably try to the manager encourages to attack and try and win games.

What does his departure signal to prospective signings, to teammates like johnny evans and the young players who are coming through.

It has become clear we are probably going to sign jay rodriquez. I have no problem with his quality however Pulis seems willing to pay up to 15 million of our small budget on a player with serious fitness issues just because he’s bloody british! And he wants to spunk loads of cash on JT. I accept John Terry is a fine leader. but to be willing to spend a huge portion of wages on a 36 year old short term fix is a waste. We need to be looking to the future. If We are able to keep johnny evans then we should be looking at Someone who can forge a partnership with him for years to come. If we sign terry we are in exactly the same boat next year!

And for goodness sake sign a bloody left back! I still believe its possible Chrlie taylor could sign but whats going on. Last summer pulis publicly said he was our main target. he is available and by all acounts a great young player. we are desperate for a left back he is one a young english one. just look at robertson from hull and cresswell from west ham. Look at their value now. If the tribunal is set between 5-7 million is that to much? i would suggest not! seems reasonable to me.

Also we need players who have a position not a squad of bloody utility players who are bang average/ poor in many positions!.

In summary expect TP to waste what little money we have on Average crap from other prem teams, cast offs or has beens just because they have experience. Then next season when the fans are on his back again and crowds are dwindling he can blame the board for not backing him and we can hear the old ‘We can only do what we can do with the players we have’ nonsense when the football is crap!…even though they are his players.

Spot on sludgy. Looking at the players mentioned in rumours only a couple would fit into TP’s ideas, Rodriguez and Terry and I wouldn’t touch either. One is injury prone and the other two old and expensive. Until TP leaves this club will only go backwards. Even Derwent has become disillusioned!

You need to go to specsavers Northy !!! I agree entirely Les. We have stagnated under Pulis. The only reason we finished 10th last season was because I think it was one of the poorest Premier Leagues ever. The quality was none existent apart from the top 6 clubs. TP talks about buying quality – Improving the squad. He believe Taylor is the answer, yet clearly we wont cough up the dough to get him. Quality doesn’t come cheap, yet Taylor could go for 5-7m, which is nothing in todays market for a young player. I think the club have lost site on player prices. Whether they like it or not players cost more than 750k nowadays. Even players out of contract like Taylor. We really need at least 6 players – NOT squad players, but players that can come in and improve the whole team. I fear we don’t have the resources to do this in one go, regardless of the money we now get from Sky and BT. I would use the alleged £40m budget to get 3, maybe 4 players in, and then reassess in January. It’s no good filling the squad with average players. Problem is £15m doesn’t buy top quality anymore. TP won’t sign young foreign players as he won’t trust them. As you suggest Les, I fear another season of unrest at the Hawthorns. Luckily for TP I don’t rate Huddersfields, and Brightons chances of staying up, so hopefully there’s only 1 place to avoid.

And Northy – Go get your eyes tested on mate 🙂

I think that finishing 10th has worked against the club. It’s given everyone a false sense of security. The club need a big kick up the ass to wake them from their slumber. I can’t see the likes of Stoke, West Ham, Leicester finishing below us again. And there are 3 or 4 more teams that we will be battling with. We could easily be looking at a relegation scrap if we don’t buy wisely. I can see us going into the new season with TP happy to continue with Brunt or Nyom at left back, so that he can spend the money elsewhere. For most supporters this is an exciting time of year, but it just fills me with dread. I’ve seen nothing from TP since he joined the club to make me think he has changed one little but, bar the brief 8 weeks after Christmas where we actually played a little football. I couldn’t blame Evans if he wanted to leave, coz I wouldn’t want to play in a Pulis team.

I would settle for a Striker, Creative Midfielder, Centre Half, and a Left Back this window.

    I can dream !!!!!!!!!!!

Northy – Most of OUR posts sound similar nowadays. There is great concern among supporters as to where we are going as a club. As you have mentioned many times, until TP leaves we are stuck in a rut. TP wants his players to be tall, athletic, strong, versatile, British, experienced. Thats a VERY narrow range we are left with. And you can’t be experienced at the age of 24, so lowering the average age of the squad will be a challenge. TP is too set in his ways – The ways of a manager from the 1990’s. The football world has moved on and left him far, far behind. Until we lose this ‘Fear football’ philosophy nothing will change. Unfortunately his huge ego gets in the way of change.

We have the basis of a decent team – FOSTER, EVANS, LIVERMORE, PHILIPS, LEKO, FIELD, CHADLI. Just a shame they are kept on a short leash by TP.

Philips and Leko on the wings, with Chadli behind a new striker. Sort the defence and we’re nearly there. Livermore the holding midfielder – YES, just 1 holding midfielder.
