” I’m more up for steady sustained progress rather than burdening the manager and club with unnecessary expectations.”

    THIS, a thousand times this.

lol “unnecessary expectations”, ok i walked into that one…

ok what I should have expressed better is that I worry the angst of not winning trophies will unsettle the long term plan… Jose steeped into a Tesla when he arrived at Man Utd.
Klopp is stepped into a Ford Focus and is having to spend night and day looking for parts to soup it up to get it ready to win that drag race lol.

Of course I’d love to be winning the quadruple every year, but as I said before it’s not the seventies or eighties when there was only 2/3 decent teams who could realistically win the league. Nowadays teams in 5th and 6th place melt down and hold inquests into why they didn’t challenge for the league (Arsenal and Man U). Bad luck prevented us from winning the trophies last year at the final hurdle.

I shouldn’t have said unnecessary expectations, wrong word…maybe unnecessary pressure is better? I’m just conscious of the need to be careful and be realistic. How can we expect to win trophies when lots of people mention that we have the sixth best squad in the league? We have to do things in stages, when we get better players then maybe any angst and disappointment for not winning trophies will be merited more so.

As I said I was definitely jealous of Man Utd yesterday and switched off the TV at 2-0 in frustration but deep down I was satisfied with our season even though we didn’t have cups to show for it. We got the better deal in Klopp if he was Man Utd manager he would have won the trophies with style and gotten 4th place.

We made two finals last year and this season I bet we would have come close or won something again but Klopp decided (or was encouraged to) prioritize 4th place and again played weak teams in the 2 cups we have any real chance of winning. As I’ve said many times now we will remain a trophy light club a la EFC until FSG sell up. If you applied moneyball to any club they would struggle to win anything. The very idea that 2017/18 will represent a new dawn is an absolute joke, just look at the poor quality of (again young) players we are linked to. Cast offs from non entity teams, more potential, all about as appealing as a plate of sick. Nothing will change until FSG sell up and by then Klopp will have gone.

    Complete bullshit once again.
    Moneyball? You having a laugh?!
    Mane £34mil
    Wij £25mil
    Lovren £20mil
    Firmino £29mil

Purposefully weak teams in the cups?!
A front 3 of Sturridge, Firmino and Coutinho played with Lallana behind. Hendo and Can involved with our best centreback pairing of Lovren and Matip.
This is the team beaten by Southampton.

    You talk some bollox.

Klopp has what it takes to be a winner and knows how to build a winning team. Problem is, do our owners? The squad needs a major overhaul and if last summer is anything to go by that will simply not happen this year. I want to be wrong but I firmly believe Klopp will be let down again this summer by an unwillingness to invest.

The club have been leaking to the press that this will be the biggest spending spree in the clubs history this summer.
It would be a fuck up of monumental proportions if they reneged on that.
It would bring unnecessary pressure and criticism for no reason.
Also with the zero net spend last summer and massive increase in TV money plus this summer sales there will be money there.

Haven’t really read this whole thread so I might be out on deep water here..
But Ginger, I think Mané, Firmino, Sturridge, Coutinho have all been great pieces of business. Gini wasn’t too bad either.

With that said, we haven’t always succeeded with our whole transfer windows. Last time we qualified for the CL, we should have overspent to keep the standard of performance (we over achieved + Suarez). Now, we should absolutely do the same. Our CL rivals Mancs*2 & Chelski will both spend huge. Arsenal will probably do the same. And let’s not forget that Spurs, already a ridiculously strong team, will strengthen again. And then there is heavy spenders Everton coming from behind.

I really hope so ginger because that’s what we need. As mac has said the teams around us will splash the cash so it’s imperative we get it right this window and don’t go down the usual road of one big signing with a spattering of cheap potential.

First of all, we have to ask ourself what trophy that we really wanted? I agree nocturnal_red regarding about MU, yes they won 3 trophies but with the kind of money they spend they could do more than that. If next season we are in CL again than I’m more than happy but it depends how much we spend on next season. CHARITY SHIELD, LEAGUE CUP, EUROPA CUP all this we won before. What LFC need to win is the PL titles or the CL.I believe in KLOPP, but the owner need to support him. LFC are still building, if you compared with the top 6 teams, we are last in term of players quality. The top 3 clubs will spend heavily next season, MU, MC, CHELSEA….especially MC and MU I’m sure they will break another transfer record.

That was my worry when not reading it all. 🙂
Thought you were complaining about the signings of Mane, etc. for the prices paid while I think the purchases have been great business. Sorry, I am probably off topic somehow and will leave this thread to you who have been involved.
