Haha what a class act he truly is mate, how could I ever have doubted him?!!.
July 21, 2017 at 9:12 am #1506779Lukaku is going to be an absolute beast for us isn’t he? Am I reading it right that Morata has scored 40 goals in 4 years and Lukaku has scored 105 goals on 4 years?
Some of the players are looking in pretty good shape already. Miki looks like he’s got a point to prove this season and I think he’s going to be the one to watch. Pogba, Lukaku, Rashford, Martial, Miki – there’s some serious talent there. If Mourinho can tie it all together then we’ll be very difficult to stop. Just hope he gets the 2 more additions he needs.July 21, 2017 at 1:34 pm #1506892This morning’s match highlighted how much in need of another striker upfront is needed. Lukaku had to play the whole 90 mins as there was no one to come on for him since Rashford and Martial were already playing out wide. In all honesty, the squad still requires minimum of 3 players. A striker, a winger and a CDM.
Then, in the words of happyhurling, we’ll be “good to go”.
July 21, 2017 at 1:45 pm #1506896Some good points. Both goals were well taken and we looked pretty dangerous in the first half. Miki is always dangerous going through the middle (not a right winger happy) and Lukaku will score goals. And I’m actually not a Smalling basher hatters. Still no holding midfielder, not one player on show today can fulfil that role, and we could still do with a little Scholes like magician in midfield pulling the strings in my opinion – that’s why I’ve always said two midfielders. Don’t like Rashford or Martial down the left, they’re just not wingers, in fact we haven’t got one orthodox winger at the club. Finally, we desperately need a left back and, at the of risk once again pissing off the Antonio Valencia fan club, a right back. I’m sorry but we just don’t generate enough threat from out wide. Second half was a none event – I don’t remember Carrick having a touch – and it’s clear to me that we’re desperately reliant on Pogna and a couple of others. I heard Jose came out and said that if we don’t bring in more players we’ll fall further behind our main rivals. Finally, someone who agrees with me.
July 21, 2017 at 2:09 pm #1506912Only a friendly but always nice to beat our Abu Dhabi neighbours. The 1st half was the closest i’ve seen to a 4-4-2 Busby/Fergie team with the exception of an out and out winger. Pogba and Herrera bossed the middle of the park, Lingard and Rashford played wide and switched flanks with Miki playing in his best position as a 10. Excellent performance, positive, fluid, easy on the eye with well- taken goals. We most definitely need a speedy, creative winger. Sadly, i do not think Martial is rated by Jose and it shows. He doesn’t look confident. Rashford, on the other hand, is noticeably improving game by game. What a talent! The score is irrelevant against a City team playing their 1st preseason and with quite a few youngsters. What’s important is how we utilise the talent we have in the best and most effective formation. If that 1st half performance is anything to go by, it gives us reason to be optimistic for the coming season.
July 21, 2017 at 2:51 pm #1506926TMA – With all due respect, not sure what you expect of Martial in comparison to Rashford with last nights game. Martial came on last night when all the quick players had been replaced in midfield with Fellaini and Carrick which culminated in United losing the midfield battle. Therefore no service to the forward line as opposed to the performance in the 1st half with Mikhitaryan producing the ammunition for Rashford and Lukaku up top.
Did you see Martial in the 1st game when he played with the better and quick players? It’s down to the manager to know the best way to utilize the talent that he has at his disposal for the betterment of the team.
July 21, 2017 at 2:57 pm #1506932Mmi that last sentence was bang on the money
July 21, 2017 at 3:11 pm #1506936Cheers rs83.
July 21, 2017 at 3:59 pm #1506956@mmi, who would you bring in upfront? Big money striker or more a squad player.
I want to see Rashford and Martial playing up front as much as possible so it’d be a shame if we brought in another striker and this reduced their game time in their preferred position. Maybe it’s two wingers we need to signJuly 21, 2017 at 4:36 pm #1506973I think we should look to bring in a proper winger who hugs the touchline. If it’s not Perisic it could be anyone else who has similar football instincts.
MMI is correct. Mourinho has a decent set of players in attack but he absolutely has to bring in a defensive midfielder and a natural winger. The defensive midfielder will allow Pogba to dictate the attacking play and maraud forward while the winger will pull one of the opposition fullbacks wide. The more I think about it, the more I think we need a right winger instead of a left winger like Perisic. This would allow the left wing position to be shared between Martial and Rashford (30 games each) and would also allow Mkhitaryan to play as a no10 which increasingly becoming obvious as his best position for us despite the fact that he lined up as a right winger in the wonder season he had at Dortmund. I think Mourinho is relying on Luke Shaw growing a pair very heavily this coming season as well, if he plays anything close to how he did in his last season at Southampton we will be sorted at left back.
I also have seen that Mourinho is experimenting with a 352 where we have Rashford and Lukaku up front – they look really dangerous together, especially when Mkhitaryan is driving through the middle at pace and looking for the slide rule pass.
July 22, 2017 at 9:43 am #1507110really love the look of a Lukaku, Rashford and Micki combo.. strong, pacey and clinical. I’m really desperate to see Martial come back to his best come this season but i doubt bringing him on the last 20 mins will help his case, Jose loves Rashford but if he can manage to give Martial the same treatment he does for Rashford then we’ll have one of the best attacking sides in the PL. Now just a few more tweaks here and there and we can start the season with better hope than the last 3 seasons
July 22, 2017 at 11:22 am #1507150@libanski. Let’s not forget that Mourinho is not fully responsible for a player’s performance. Mourinho has spoken about Rashford’s dedication on several occasions and we have never heard that about Martial. Rashford stays at the training centre after practice like Ronaldo used to do and he also went to a Nike training centre in the USA while all the other squad members were on holiday.
The increased finishing ability that Rashford has shown in the pre-season must be noted and complemented. It’s clear that he has been training intensely in the off season and is highly motivated. His delivery on crosses is also looking much better.
In short, I think Rashford is outworking Martial (and everyone else in the squad) and is getting the requisite faith from the manager. Martial is more talented in my opinion but he is at risk of falling through the cracks because he doesn’t have the motivation to become the player he can be.
July 22, 2017 at 1:27 pm #1507203Hatters- Yeah i know, some players have the talent but don’t have the determination and dedication to succeed and become great players…but i just have a feeling if Martial gets some motivation and support from Mourinho just like he did from V.Gaal he might recreate his first season and go even on a higher level because it would be sad to see him leave and shine for another team
July 23, 2017 at 5:22 am #1507395@homerjay540 – I doubt Mourhino will play either Rashford or Martial up top unless Lukaku gets injured which means those 2 will always play on either side of Lukaku, especially if we fail to bring in a winger. Bearing in mind that we’ve lost both Rooney and Zlatan, we need more than a squad player in the striking dept.
In terms of who I’d like, I can’t look past Belotti who I feel will not mind being a squad player but a very good one who will score bags of goals.
July 23, 2017 at 4:46 pm #1507587How exactly would Belotti fit in with Lukaku, Rashford and Martial?
July 24, 2017 at 12:02 am #1507675Horrendous miss by fellaini a must see hahahah I give up with that guy! Midfield woeful we need something we really do
July 24, 2017 at 12:38 am #1507680Jose for crying out play fosu mensah in midfield or pereira stop this fellaini loving its f ing torture! 4-3-3 stifled us 3-5-2 go back to what worked!
Terrible penalties!!!
July 24, 2017 at 7:51 am #1507695@united_we_win. Relax mate, it’s a practice match hahaha. How did Lindelof, Pereira, and Lukaku get on? By all accounts it seems like Lindelof was woeful. Maybe Smalling’s midas touch has rubbed off on him already!
July 24, 2017 at 8:15 am #1507700Well that was a poor game, particularly the second half against their reserves and youth team players. Tells me one thing – we’re still short in midfield x 2, at left back and out wide. No cutting edge and no guile in midfield. Lukaku, consequently, never had a kick.
July 24, 2017 at 8:34 am #1507706Anthony Martial and Andreas Pereira played very well yesterday.
Pity Jose hasn’t tried Pareira alongside Pogba and Hererra.
With a rejuvenated Martial and Lingard as back up, we may not need Perisic after all. Fabinho/Matic though are a necessity -
