Yep, fair enough Sean – for me it was one of those which can go either way. Utd had a similar incident when Vertongan (I think) wrapped his foot around Herrera’s head to clear the ball and no penalty was given – much higher foot in that incident and the play was in front of him so he knew where Hererra’s head was.
Offside anyway, so shouldn’t have come to that but the offside was close. Be interesting to see what happens to Wenger. Should be charged today if they are going to do anything.
January 23, 2017 at 9:07 am #1421393Gotta laugh at all the people calling for wenger to be banned for 10 games.
Anthony taylor didn’t even move, it was a slight push at best and nothing more.
They say we live in a world perpetrated by outrage and false indignation, i guess we do.
No one wanna mention the pen on mustafi ?
January 23, 2017 at 10:03 am #1421431tiptap, there really wasnt anything in it but footbal is such a big girls blouses game these days that his reaction should get a ban. You cant put your hands on the officials at all. Even though it was hardly a push, he still raised his hands to move him away chum. He totally lost the plot and you could see after the game that he regretted it
January 23, 2017 at 10:08 am #1421436Have to agree with the Goonie, having seen a clip on Youtube, if that “shove” gets a ban it will be a mockery of the game!
January 23, 2017 at 10:13 am #1421439would have been classic if he had “gone down” clutching his face and rolling around
January 23, 2017 at 10:30 am #1421455Sean – “Totally lost the plot” ??!
I’ll say it again – massive overreaction, how is that totally losing the plot?
I didn’t realise he snuck up behind taylor before gouging his eye out.
I also missed the bit where he hit him over the head with a frozen chicken before getting the Arsenal chef to quickly defrost said item and serve it to the officials before it could be used as evidence against him.
January 23, 2017 at 11:14 am #1421486You can’t touch the officials. Sends a terrible message to those watching the match on TV who then go and play on a weekend. If kids see that they will not respect officials when they get brought to task.
January 23, 2017 at 11:28 am #1421494No one is debating that wenger was correct to do that, he’ll get a one match touchline ban and rightly so.
But lets not make this into something that it isn’t, and calls for him to be banned ala di canio are laughable.
You know its false indigation when the old kids argument rears its heads again.
i mean, will someone just please think about the children, those poor boys and girls, having to watch that, that image will stay with them forever, will they ever get over it?
January 23, 2017 at 11:40 am #1421501Kids copy what they see on the telly. It’s not false indignation. Officials should be respected and not physically pushed around by upset managers.
Just an opinion.
January 23, 2017 at 11:49 am #1421505to be fair Alfie I do largely agree, looking at the incident in context, it shouldnt have happened, AW has admitted this and he should and will be punished
the “push” in question was nothing, i mean really it was barely an arm brush! no kids will look at that and go abusing officials, less so when they hear him straight after the match saying he should not have done it and he gets punished
look at the incident, compare action against Maureen if it makes you feel good but calling on the kids is a tad to far in this argument!
January 23, 2017 at 11:51 am #1421507With everything currently happening in the world, for instance, terrorism and the president of the USA’s less than favourable opinions on women and muslims/mexicans – lets just say that wenger is bottom of a very long list of things to worry about in connection to teaching the youth of today.
January 23, 2017 at 12:00 pm #1421512I think both Liverpool and Arsenal under estimated their opponents this weekend and both just turned up expecting a routine 3 points. Arsenal never got out of 1st gear and when they went 1-0 up and down to 10 men they just slowed the game down even more and sat in. They only woke up after Burnley equalised.
January 23, 2017 at 12:00 pm #1421513Imagine a ref from the prem in charge of a Barca v Real game, these games are crazy from the start, they wouldn’t cope.
January 23, 2017 at 12:09 pm #1421524Can just imagine TTG’s reaction had that been Conte, Jose or Klopp shoving the 4th official. Would have probably called for the death penalty, the club to be thrown out of world football, the stadium to be demolished and the team to be given a life prison sentence!!! I remember Wenger doing the same to Jose whilst he was at Chelsea a few seasons back…steamed into the CFC technical area and shoved Jose. Was he sanctioned? Nah the FA ‘didn’t see it’ like everyone else did.
January 23, 2017 at 12:30 pm #1421547It was just an opinion lads, based on me having a six year old boy who is well into his football and picked up on this during the game and who picks up on lots of incidents in other matches which he then copies at school (skill-wise). No need to go so over the top in your defence of the indefensible.
January 23, 2017 at 12:40 pm #1421554“if that “shove” gets a ban it will be a mockery of the game!”
Come on Banjo, had that been Jose you wouldn’t be saying that. Kicking a water bottle is more punishable than putting hands on a match official? Wow….
January 23, 2017 at 12:45 pm #1421556Stulsie i said wenger should get a 1 game ban, just think its laughable that some people are calling for a 10 game ban.
I actually think they should throw the book at conte but for other reasons, one beimg his crimes against hair and the other for acting like an idiot on the touchline.
Chelsea title to lose though, lets hope for your sake you don’t bottle it
January 23, 2017 at 12:58 pm #1421566OT… to be fair, I thought the Marueen ban for that was ridiculous too…
January 23, 2017 at 1:05 pm #1421576Pardew got a 2 match ban for shoving a linesman when at Newcastle, so I would imagine that will be what Wenger gets. I agree though, if Jose gets a match for kicking a water bottle then Wenger MUST get more than that.
January 23, 2017 at 1:27 pm #1421597normally id agree but you cant really compare anything to Maureen as he has done so much and is so hated, the pardew one is a fair comparison though!
