Yep agreed JC. Also I’d add that mostly the players we sold weren’t going to be first teamers anyway this season, so we have added quality to our first 11 without taking anything from it

Yeah bingo simple as, just turn Anfield into a fortress, that’ll be so simple with all those teams coming to Anfield & sitting behind the ball because we are excellent at winning those games. Maintaining a 1.3 away average will be no dramas either.

JC/Ian: I don’t think it’s been a great window but it hasn’t been a major catastrophe either. Like everyone id loved to have seen at least a left back but I just don’t think we can attract the quality we need/want. I think the thing that’s so frustrating is this issue has been a major problem since last season so we’ve had plenty of time to find a solution.
We’ve got rid of a lot of deadwood & got what so far look like 2 really good players in Mane & Matip. I think the best we can get is 5th but with a bit of luck who knows. I do think we will score a few goals which will at least make us good to watch going forward.

The list of 24 is now closed, no more changing your thoughts as the season unfolds.

I still think the ones that chose a top 4 are dreamers, we will wait & see.

I know I should really wait until 10 games in, or new year, before starting to look back at how our season is doing – but I am 🙂 We don’t need to get carried away yet (as the Swansea performance and failure to break down united prove), but we’ve made a really strong start to the season so far.

We’ve come through the daunting schedule to the start of the season – beating arsenal, Chelsea, and leicester and drawing with Tottenham and united. I think any of us would have taken that at the start of the season. The only bad result of the season so far has been the Burnley game. Still in the cups as well where maybe we can see players like grujic develop and ings return to the first team.

Biggest surprises have been how good we look playing with no recognised striker or defensive midfielder, and a right winger playing at left back! (Actually not surprised by Milner doing a good job, I thought he’d do well)

Every time we look at the fixtures & say “oh we’ve got some very winnable games coming up” or “we’ve played all the tough away games” we fail to deliver. Teams will take note of manu & pack the midfield in an attempt to stifle our game. I can’t think of many teams that will attack us or give us much space & we struggle with those games. Long long way to go.

I will say nothing as I don’t want to kibosh our team.

Agreed there is a long way to go, clearly, and it’s a little early to “review”. But yeah, the perceived run of “tough fixtures” is now done, and we did well.

It’ll be interesting to see how we fare in the games vs the “smaller” teams, who as you mention are likely to set up against us in a way that’ll likely not give us the space that we desire (and tend to play Much better when it is there – usually against teams who’ll come and give it a go attacking us)

Impossible to say at the moment, I have learnt from my acca’s and pub football prediction competition the most unpredictable results come up for all teams not just ours.

As frustrating as it was to not beat Utd, they didn’t beat us either. As Ian says, we’ve got a lot of the tough fixtures out of the way, a lot of hard tests and over=all, we’ve come through them looking pretty good.

it will indeed be interesting to see how we fair against the teams who are hoping to snatch a win, rather than going out there with the full intention of getting one. The forced changes hurt us a little against Utd but we still did a lot of things right, I guess. There’s one big change that I’d like to see over the next few weeks and that is to at least bring Ings in on the bench.

We might not have won our last game but we didn’t really lose much momentum and with Utd and City playing each-other next, we’re assured of the chance to improve our situation over at least one of them. We’ve got West Brom at home, which might not be as exciting a prospect as some of our previous games this season but it goes without saying why it’s vital that we get back to winning ways. Get those 3 points in the bag!

I still call our team potential title contenders, I’d have nailed it down if we’d beaten Utd that time , so our match against West Brom is to maintain this potential. There will be plenty of these types of games if all goes well for us, so Klopp will have to really solidify this idea in the squads minds.

So in short, I’m just asking for 3 points and from there to look at a title challenge, down the road. I’m not even bothered about goal difference. We can solve one problem at a time, let’s get back to scoring goals and if we win enough games, goal difference will look after itself.

The following game vs palace also represents a real banana skin type game for us. If we come through the next 2 games with 6 points (4 would probably be acceptable) then I think we will be looking good to very good at the 10 games into the season stage

Yep Ian. I’d be pretty disappointed with a draw against Palace though. TBH I am now disappointed with a draw against pretty much everyone, which I think speaks volumes for our quality, unity and drive.

It’s very competitive there at the top, dropping points against the banana skin teams is not acceptable right now. Look at the games that we’ve gotten results in and we may end up 3rd after the City Vs Utd match. I’m not complaining at all, the title is won in May, just making a point that it’s not going to be at all easy if we’re going to give it a real go.

I think we can though and it’s high time that others started to believe it too.

Looking back at my predictions, I was spot on about us. We finished 4th and I’m celebrating like a trophy!

    My pre season post:
    “Logically we will finish 5-6th.
But, we should beat Tottenham to be happy = 5th.
Then, there is always a slip up from one of the big teams will flop, so I will go for 4th.
Then I would celebrate like a trophy ?”

Think weve done very well making 4th all things considered. Should be an exciting summer window now for squad strengthening going into next season.

Haha, i said I’d be happy with 5th as that would have meant progress on the season before but after today I’m glad we got 4th, definitely deserved it better than Arsenal and Chelsea. To be honest I think we could have won the league even.

We were top for a while then lost key players and fell off the rails. Chelsea and Tottenham never really lost any key players for any considerable length of time.

Now If we can build on our framework and get better quality and robust players well have a chance of maintaining a title challenge. Klopp is a great manager, we easily have the worst balance team in the top 6/7 teams yet have come out going for title at one point and ended up with champions league as consolation.

The CL will stretch both Liverpool and Chelsea next season much will depend on how well the squads are strengthened and the Group’s that both clubs draw.

Assuming qualification Liverpool are likely to get a tough Group as their current co efficient will probably put them in the third pot whilst Chelsea have the advantage of being in pot 1 but could still draw a Barcelona in their Group.

Far too much water to flow under the Bridge before anyone can make a sensible forecast as to where their teams will finish.

    Shanksy 6th
    SuarezT top4
    Sean 6th

    TaxiDriver 5/6th.

Well done to Bob (Notts), MacAttack and Ian2105 for getting it spot on 🙂

If we had just got a few more points (can point to too many games to bother) I might have been more correct 😉

I would consider it a good season!

I think we had about the 6th best squad so finishing 4th is an excellent achievement.

Too right Gul, very exciting times ahead for us mate. If the squad we had can finish above the likes of manu & Arsenal then the ability to offer C/L & possibly attract top quality players will hopefully mean even more improvement next season.
