So its confirmed JM will be taking over, at least we haven’t dragged this out any further than necessary which should mean JM can get to work straight away, however i suspect he has been working in the background for a couple of months at least. So with LVG out what will JM bring? This is what i think:

    1) Will play attractive football – the “manchester united way”. 4-2-3-1 formation. Solid defenders protected by 2 mid fielders who dont go anywhere and whose job it is to protect the back 4 at all costs.

    2) Is not defensively oriented – unlike LVG JM always sets his teams out to go for jugular playing fast attacking football and taking the game to the opposition even away from home

    3) Promotes youth – has a proven track record of bringing through youngsters and nurturing young talent, developing them into top class players – this is an essential part of the Manchester United philopshy

    4) Brining in JM makes sense because he will build on the style already instilled by LVG. Its not like he will come in and change the entire style which should see less disruption

    5) has a fantastic record agaisnt Pep

Better players will be brought in and thats the impoortant thing for me.
Park the bus strategy may be his tactics but that will give you lightning counterattacks which is the dna of Man United at least the old times.
I am pretty sure he will chop the right players in a long deadwoodlist.
The defence will get better, its only because of DeGea we are conceding less goals,
our back4 stinks. My mouth is watering if he buys cb,cmf, right winger and a striker with names like Zlatan,Andre Gomez,Mané from the Saints.

Lets hope he integrates Fosu-Mensah and Rashford in the first team.
I am pretty sure he will use Fosu-Mensah as a dmf because the lad has all the attributes for it. Not sure about Rashford will be integrated and thats a shame because he has pace galore.

What i am sure of is Eva will not be hired. And it will end up in tears with JM. But maybe he is the right manager right now?

Yeah that’s the thing isn’t it, we’re a club who hire short-term managers now. Its a mind set change for all of us. We may not have a manager for more than 3 years ever again. If Mourinho does come in i’m sure he’ll bring short-term success to the club. But what will his legacy be?

rs83, I can’t work out if your post is meant to be ‘tongue in cheek’ but here’s my two cents on the Portuguese.

    1) We’re signing a serial winner – a guy who has won the Premier League during two separate spells and the Champions League with two different clubs.

    2) Mourinho teams don’t necessarily play the most expansive type of football but his teams are mostly effective at winning games. His teams are well drilled and compact against top quality sides and they tend to be ruthless against weaker opposition. He picks his teams depending on the opposition and I seem to remember his teams knocking 3 or 4 past teams in the lower half of the table. It won’t be champagne football but it will be an improvement on LVG’s ‘philosophy’.

    3) It’s all speculation at this point but I’d expect our recruitment to focus on guys who are either powerful or pacy rather than the possession focused players that we currently have. I’d imagine that we’ll probably be in the market for a top class additions in CB, CM, RW and CF departments.

    4) As for the theory about not developing youth, I don’t think this shall be an issue going forward. Due to circumstance, LVG has blooded in a number of youngsters with Borthwick-Jackson, Fosu-Mensah and Rashford looking particularly impressive. They’ve all been given a baptism under fire, they’re all under the age of 20 and it’s likely that they will be used in the squad next season. Our tradition will be maintained and besides those 3, we won’t need to blood anymore youngsters in over the next 3 seasons.

    5) His record against Pep isn’t brilliant but neither was Fergie’s against Mourinho.

And i forgot to mention he has no class what so ever.
He also focus on destroying the opponents creativity rather than to create.
But he is good at attracting good players and thats what we want right now.

Bielsa was my number 1 option and Blanc number 2.
LVG had his 2 years and £250M and ended up in poor slow play, not good enough.

Yeah, I wonder what the people slating 35 year old Carrick think about Mourinho signing 35 year old Zlatan. I expect thats different somehow … And if he plays him instead of Rashford then I despair.

JM has had 6 months to think about himself, his future, and where his career is going.
He should have used the time to think about his attitude towards his players, his employers, and the fans. Surely he must be aware of his past mistakes and decisions he’s made that have reflected badly on himself and his employers.
His appointment to the big job at OT might give him an opportunity to rediscover himself. He might start with a new perspective on his role as a manager and as a role model for those young men under his wing.
I think all doubters should be prepared to accept him and to offer their best wishes.

Its seems everyone is certain about short term success. Is it really that simple nowadays? Even if Jose throw millions on good players, there’s no guarantee they will chose utd because so many other teams can offer similar. Say he gets these good players, there are now 4 other teams with good managers who will be up for the trophy fights.

For this reason, i think the board has made another mistake…this one potentially with more longer term consequences. In two season, if jose has no trophies and hasnt mounted a serious title challenge, what then?

Zlatan brings United what Cantona give us when he was at United, just look how many goals United made this season and Zlatan alone did, even that he is 34 years old, he still delivers every match he plays and will be great to guide Martrial and Rashford. I remember we bought a Sherringham too once right on an old age.

Talk about finding the positives. Some of you are so desperate to win at all costs you cant see the wood for the trees. Only on here are the agendas so transparent. So desperate to kiss Jose’s arse that you deem parking the bus as an attacking tactic echoing the Utd of old.

Who the fuck would you have appointed Manthistle? We know who it wouldn’t have been but who? Stuck with Van Gaal or someone else? Giggs?

Its sounds to me like a lot of you on here are still trying to convince yourself that Mourinho was the right appointment. You highlight a negative of his but then put a positive spin on it to tell yourself he’s the man for the job.

He doesn’t play expansive football but…
Lets hope he integrates Rashford and Fosu-Mensah…
Get rid of Carrick and Rooney but my mouth is watering at the prospect of a 34 year old Zlatan?
Its likely that they [Rashford and Fosu-Mensah] will be used in the squad…
His record against Pep isn’t that good but…
Even though he is 34… well Fergie signed Sheringham…

Who are you trying to convince? Us or yourself?

Easy there JM. No need for the potty mouth just yet. Its only half 9.

Anyone would have been better than Jose. At least we have 3 seasons to find the right man for the job now eh…

I didnt want JM as the manager thats true but I am sick to death watching the slow play mastered by Carrick for years and lately the philosophy of LVG.
My eyes are bleeding. Dont you worry,JM wont stay very long but during his tenure better players will be bought and the deadwood will be cut.

Park the bus strategy is anti football, true but its the way Simeoni practice in Atletico Madrid.

My worries for having JM are neglecting Fosu-Mensah and Rashford and playing Rooney to 2019. My hopes are seeing the backs of Carrick-Mata-Lingard-Young
Jones-Valencia-Fellaini. The Sch´s would balance the knifes edge too.

A lot of your posts sound rather silly. Everyone is making sweeping statements about what Mourinho will do or what he will not do.

Have we learnt nothing from Moyes and LvG? I remember telling grand tales of van Gaal’s philosophy bringing us a dynasty of success ala Barcelona on the old forum. Look how that turned out?

Fact is we don’t know how we will set up and we don’t know which players are coming in or out and yet people are already at each other’s throats.

For sanity’s sake I will keep silent on this. We sacked a failure and we replaced him with by far the best candidate, I am happy about that. The rest is yet to be seen – Mourinho has not signed a contract, has not sold or bought any players, and has not managed a single minute of a United game and yet there are people telling us of Old Trafford imploding while others are telling us he is guaranteed to get us trophies.
