    Hmm…

No Vardy, no Drinkwater, no Mark Noble.
The slow aging Rooney in midfield, alongside the unskilled Eric Dier who’s the only one enjoying himself, Harry Kane crossing the ball in to… well, nobody. The mediocrity only interrupted by the odd flash of quality from Alli, Lallana and Sturridge. Who seem to be trying their best to grab a fluke 1-0 win. So they can go on to be mediocre another day.

    Same old England. Well done.

    Last-minute- L A L L A N A !!!!!!!

    YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gotta be delighted with that given we had a lot of that second half with a man advantage.

Good choice of subs to improve the tempo of the game.

I don’t know why there seems to be a big meal made from Rooney playing a free role. If it’s for the purpose of seeing the bigger picture and providing leadership and guidance, then I’m all for that.

Great last-gasp 3 points making it a perfect start to the World Cup qualifying campaign

    Rock on England!!!!!

Lallana scored? Lallana? Bloody hell. Let’s hope he has his shooting boots on on Saturday against Leicester. I hear Skrtel was sent off. Doesn’t surprise me in the slightest. I’ve been calling for us to sell him for years. Crap defender

The CBs are pushing up high trying to squeeze the game as much as possible with Stones stepping forward with the ball. He looks up and finds that he’s actually gone past Rooney and has to pass backwards to find him. The shape is just so bad…so many times England try and probe one side and cannot penetrate so they go backwards but end up having to go all the way back to Hart. It’s just so easy to defend against.

Haha, S/t I like re the beginning sentence 😀

Yes mate, the monkey so it may seem is finally off his back and hopefully, that goal can be the springboard effect to score for us after all, he’s a busy little player but his final product lacks conviction.

Hopefully this season, he’ll get to how he was when he was in Saints colours.

    Cheers

Henderson is pure dog shit yet he is our captain. All that needs to be said about the strength of Liverpool’s team. Shocking tonight.

I think todays fixture provide one thing. That no matter who’s in charge of England we’re still crap. At one point the CB’s were trying harder to break the lines and the Slovakian defence. I’m happy with the win and 3 points are 3 points. Things can only get better but I do wish that an England manager was braver by dropping Rooney or other big name players.

We need a style of play, and if that means dropping names then so be it. I also think that we shouldn’t name a captain and should take up the Italian way of doing things. The most experienced player on the pitch will be the captain (until a tournament). That way, a player doesn’t become undropable due to them being a captain.

Wayne Rooney shouldn’t be anywhere near the starting 11. The lad is finished at the top level. Fat Sam is just the latest manager who has a hard on for ‘Wazza’. And here was I thinking that Allardyce actually had the balls to drop him. Nope. Just another manager swinging from Rooney’s nut sack

    Chelsea Lee,

I don’t think we’ve really had a style. For instance; Spain and Italy come with a reputation of style.

Our game is more about guts; drive and determination. Maybe after the Venables and Hoddle reigns, our style changed to the point where when there was no signs of leadership on the pitch, nobody knew what to do with the ball and as a result showed inclination to pass it backwards and sidewards rather than forwards – the 4-2-3-1 springs to my mind.

Obviously I’m delighted with tonight’s outcome, but if there are changes to be made, we are not going to see them overnight.

Rooney’s time will soon come to an end. I’m hoping it’s not Jordan Henderson who will be handed the Skipper’s armband.

Unfortunately as opposed to previous decades, this all claws back to the number of English players playing at top level in the Prem and we don’t have a great deal in abundance to choose from when it comes to characters and technically gifted players.

There is no leadership engraved anymore because of the washbag culture of players that evolve in today’s game. You gain leadership from developing inner strength and being able to deal with problem solving effeciently and independently.

Players now on taking thousands and thousands of pounds each week as as young as 18/19. They’ve probably never even swept the floor, clean the boots of senior players or face any form of hardship, so how can they learn and grasp the meaning of work ethic?

Big Sam in his mind may well like to make drastic changes, but at the moment, there’s not a great deal of choice and whether or not he would be prepared to take a risk in unleashing somebody completely unproven, time will tell, and if that doesn’t work out, then the buck falls on him and it’s basically one vicious circle resurfacing all over again, except with a different manager in charge.

sensibles7 – we have to develop a style of play. Every side has a style of play. Spain has the tippy gappy football, the Italians play a slow build up play & build their sides around defence, and Wimbledon played a style of play in the 80’s that brought them success.

I want Sam to find our style of play and adapt it to this team. I don’t care if that is kick and rush or a passionate build up play. However, we need to select a team and formation that suits our style of play and how we want to go forward. We need to play to our strengths.

That was crap to watch. How is the manager saying that one player can go where he likes. Plays him as a number ten then he plays to deep and the other two midfielders don’t swap or the team does not adjust. Moanino has said he is not a midfielder and we don’t need him there if we do then play Ali or Stirling or Lallana as a It was rubbish it’s his first game so I will give him a break but I just don’t see how this will be different my gut feeling this will be a disaster.

In the grand context of it all it is Sam’s first game and we should not get riled up and dramatic like the media do.

However there are multiple problems which were apparent yesterday that have not been immediately addressed and I would hope Sam realises them quickly before we settle into a Roy-esque way to lose games.

    1. Rooney is not a midfielder. His long balls had a decent success rate but they were often to area where the player was heavily marked. He was far too deep and created a massive vacuum behind Kane of which Dier or Henderson can operate effectively. He wasn’t strong in a tackle and his general passing was terrible.

    2. Kane/any striker cannot score without support. Harry was left isolated for the majority of the game and had to come deep to even get a taste of the ball and by that time, as there was no number 10 or any runners from midfield, any of his crosses were into no one, giving the ball away. A striker cannot score without decent support, that is a fact. Only when Alli came on to least put a body within the number 10 role our attacks were more frequent but by that time Kane was dejected and I can’t say I blame him. To all those who say he is not fit to wear the shirt, useless, or “if Kane can play for England so can I”, grow up and realise that no striker scores without decent support.

    3. Sterling and his international form. I don’t understand how he can play well for City and then achieve a pass accuracy rate of 70.8% for England. Either the City players make him look better than he is or he doesn’t try hard enough when playing for England. The conundrum continues.

    4. Henderson offers nothing. He was anonymous all game and offered nothing in defence or attack, the new Milner (who seems to be doing a decent job at LB for ‘Pool but anything is better than Moreno).

    5. Chances for new and in form players. A long of of 1 player, Antonio and he didn’t even feature. I was under the impression the players like Antonio who have ability, can score/cross/offer direct play and are in form would be afforded opportunities. He would of given their LB hell, and he is great in the box for set pieces. Remove those not playing well enough for their clubs and freshen up the team sheet. Spain, Italy and the rest are quite happy to field players based on their form and ability such as the Spanish striker who plays for Bilbao, one of top scorers in the league so he was given the chance to play as a sub despite being classed as coming towards the end of his career. (Form) Giacherinni was at Sunderland, not even in the first team and was a star at the Euros for the Italian starting XI. (Unfancied club but manager knows of ability through experience and thorough scouting).

I hope Allerdyce does well, but there have been two early points of concern for me. Firstly, he has continued to pick Kyle Walker, and whilst a wonderful athlete, he appears to have very little in the way of defensive awareness. He WILL let us down AGAIN in the future.

Secondly, this nonsense about net being able to tell Rooney where to play. WTF!!! Whether Rooney has more international experience than Allerdyce or not, football is football, and he needs to show Rooney who is the boss. I would not imagine when he first came to Chelsea, Mourinho said to Lampard he can play where he likes because he has got more Premier League excperience. He would have told him exactly what was expected of him, and rightly so.

I hope this is part of the PR, and that Allerdyce is really kicking Rooney’s arse up and down the changing room, for not doing what he’s told. Who knows, but despite the three points, not the most auspicious start for me I’m afraid.
