Atleti fail to win anyone over despite their aggregate win vs Bayern, while Man City’s task in Madrid and Leicester’s future are discussed.

I disagree completely on the negative assessment of Atletico Madrid. I think they are an excellent team with some hugely gifted players. Style is a subjective thing, but for me I’m bored of the Guardiola Tiki Taka style, and feel Bayern are a worse team than under Jupp Heynckes where they had the ability to be more direct at times.

Atleti play a more direct style and their work ethic is amazing. Simeone is a manager you’d love if he was yours, and he’s obviously built an iron will throughout the squad that is in his own image, as well as a loyalty Leonidas would be proud of, and which he also returns to the club.

And for all those who summarise the poor relations of Madrid, have a look at Saul’s goal in the first leg. For me it’s the best goal I’ve seen this season!

Someone mentioned gamesmanship by Atletico and how it is disgraceful. To us it is, but on the continent it is par for the course. Every player on every team does it to some extent and English players aren’t exempt either, see Ashley Cole’s yellow card for timewasting this weekend. English clubs, in Europe at least, need to get on board for this or they will never win a CL again. It’s part and parcel of European football now, if you can’t beat ’em, join ’em.
