Paper Talk: Liverpool eye £60m Karius replacement; Mbappe in Prem link

Liverpool have stepped up their bid to land a £60m keeper after Loris Karius’ Champions League shocker, while the Reds are ready to offer one of their young stars a contract extension, according to Monday’s papers.

LIVERPOOL STEP UP KEEPER BID AFTER KARIUS NIGHMTARE

Liverpool are planning a fresh approach to sign Roma goalkeeper Alisson after Loris Karius’ Champions League final nightmare.

The German made two huge errors to virtually hand Real Madrid the trophy in Kiev on Saturday and it would appear that Jurgen Klopp has seen enough of the stopper.

The Reds chief was already pondering trying to land a new keeper this summer, despite Karius’ improvement in the second half of the season, and the Daily Telegraph claims Klopp will now try again to land Alisson having been rebuffed by Roma before.

The Brazilian is considered one of the top keepers plying his trade in Europe, but Roma will be tough customers to deal with despite their need to sell due to financial issues.

Their director of football, Monchi, is loathed to sell a second Roma star to Anfield – having let Mo Salah move to Merseyside for what now seems the bargain of the decade after his €42m switch last summer.

Despite Alisson’s price tag of £60m putting Liverpool off in their previous attempts to land the player, it would appear that Klopp has now realised that he must splash out for a top keeper to avoid what happened with Karius in Kiev again.

Despite his nightmare against Real, Liverpool are not expected to sell Karius this summer and will instead use him as a back-up to a new arrival – with Simon Mignolet the man to make way at Anfield.
