Roma are on the verge of securing the Ainsley Maitland-Niles transfer with reports stating the deal has been signed off and personal terms now agreed over the move.

Maitland-Niles, who emerged as an exciting talent at the start of his Arsenal career, has suffered a recent decline. In fact, after spending the second half of last season on loan at West Brom, he wanted out altogether.

Everton wanted to sign him. After Arsenal blocked the move, though, he took to social media to vent his frustration at his lack of playing time.

This season, Maitland-Niles has played eight Premier League games. However, his total minutes amount to less than three 90-minute stints.

Indeed, talks over a move to Roma have been ongoing for the past few weeks with Jose Mourinho looking to sign him.

Now, il Corriere dello Sport claims Roma are on the verge of announcing his signing. They state talks have reached a positive conclusion and that Maitland-Niles’ camp have “reached an agreement” on personal terms.

Maitland-Niles transfer closing in

They report that the five-times capped England international will sign on an initial loan deal, with a three-year deal commencing from July 1.

That deal will run until summer 2025 and see Maitland-Niles earn €2.5m per season, or £40,000 a week after tax.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles is on his way to Roma

Arsenal's Ainsley Maitland-Niles has been linked with a move to Roma.

They state the player is now ready to say his goodbyes to his Arsenal teammates. Furthermore, the versatile star will secure the move once a payment structure is agreed.

Roma are looking to pay around €10m (£8.4m) for Maitland-Niles, while Arsenal are seeking nearer €15m (£12.6m). Il Corriere, however, reckons the two parties are likely to meet down the middle, with any fee also incorporating a small loan fee.

Maitland-Niles convinced by Tammy Abraham

Maitland-Niles now looks destined to become the third Englishman at Roma alongside Chris Smalling and Tammy Abraham.

Indeed, former Chelsea striker Abraham is understood to have ‘played a key role’ in helping Roma secure his signing.

As per recent reports, Abraham reportedly spoke with Maitland-Niles about the positives of moving to Rome.

And it’s claimed Maitland-Niles was ‘convinced’ into making the move after listening to his countryman.

Abraham has reportedly spoken warmly about life in the Italian capital. The striker has also been explaining how life in Serie A will be good for Maitland-Niles’ career.

The Gunners are likely to use funds from the Maitland-Nile sale towards a new striker, amid ongoing uncertainty around Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
