Arteta headache set to be relieved as Juventus clear way for Arsenal swoop

Alexander Isak puts his thumbs up during Real Betis vs Real Sociedad, December 2021

Mikel Arteta could have a major headache relieved as Juventus have cleared the way for Arsenal to complete a major signing, reports would suggest.

White the Gunners boss is currently self-isolating with Covid-19, it is his group of attackers that are causing him to feel uneasy. By the end of the season, he could be left with just youngsters Gabriel Martinelli and Folarin Balogun.

Eddie Nketiah is set to leave the Emirates with Bayer Leverkusen reportedly registering serious interest in the 22-year-old.

He could be out of the door as soon as the end of next week if the German club get their way.

Frozen-out striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang also looks to have run his Arsenal race. It is hard to see him making a return under Arteta.

And Newcastle are said to be looking to take him away, also in January. They want a loan-with-option-to-buy transfer to ease their relegation struggles.

While Nketiah and Aubameyang haven’t featured, Alexandre Lacazette has been the main man.

His contract expires at the end of the season, though. And Nicolas Pepe may join him through the exit door due to his lacklustre impression on the side.

Therefore, forward acquisitions are absolutely essential for Arsenal. And their number one target appears to be Alexander Isak.

Reports suggest Arsenal and England forward Bukayo Saka would be willing to move to Liverpool, if the chance arose.

Arteta project gaining traction

The Real Sociedad striker was also fancied by the Old Lady. But according to Tuttomercatoweb, their hunt for a new forward has switched away from him.

The Gunners now seem to be the front runners for the 22-year-old’s signature. He has previously stated his desire for Premier League football.

Liverpool have also been linked with Isak this season. But Arteta may not allow his Premier League rivals to have a look in with him set on the Sweden international.

Meanwhile, one pundit has claimed the signing of Tariq Lamptey from Brighton would strike fear into Arsenal’s opponents.

Former Chelsea defender Lamptey has been in inspired form for the Seagulls this season.

The 21-year-old right-back has made 11 Premier League appearances this season after missing the start of the campaign with injury. The right-back is maturing into one of the most exciting young defenders in the top flight.

Arsenal are understood to be watching his progress, along with a number of other teams.

And they’ve been urged to build a “phenomenal” right-hand side along with Bukayo Saka.
