Arsenal appear well placed to land Alvaro Morata despite obstacles in place in striker pursuit
Arsenal are reportedly in a good financial position to land striker target Alvaro Morata, though obstacles could hinder their pursuit.
Morata has been linked with a move consistently over the past few months. The Spaniard is set to return to Atletico Madrid this summer, following a two-year loan at Juventus.
Arsenal are one of the main clubs to have been linked with a move for the striker. The Gunners could lose both Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah this summer, though it now looks likely that the latter will stay.
Still, Mikel Arteta will want to fill the gap left by experienced striker Lacazette leaving. Especially since Arsenal also lost Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to Barcelona in the summer.
Morata has shown his eye for goal time after time in his career. The Spaniard has never failed to surpass 10 goals in a season playing senior football, and could well continue that streak with Arsenal.
Calciomercato reports the Gunners would be able to meet the financial requirements to take him on board.
Indeed, it seems that Atletico are willing to let Morata leave. The report also states that although Juventus would be willing to keep the striker, they would like a discounted price.
That is a compromise that Atletico are apparently not willing to make, and there has been no offer from Juve anyway.
Savage Alvaro Morata rejects Arsenal rumours
Arsenal have been rejected by Alvaro Morata who will leave Juventus this summer and go back to Atletico Madrid
As such, it appears Arsenal are currently in the lead in the pursuit of Morata.
As yet, though, the Gunners have not made an offer for the striker.
Morata could halt Arsenal transfer
Morata himself could put a stop to a transfer to Arsenal, despite them appearing to be in the lead. The report states that the striker ‘does not welcome’ a move to north London, due to a poor period of his career in England, with Chelsea.
Indeed, Morata managed just 15 goals in his first season with the Blues, following his £59.4million move.
The following season, the Spaniard managed just nine goals, before returning to Spain midway through the season.
Given his last venture in England was not all too successful, it makes sense why he may not want to give the Premier League another crack.
With that being said, Arsenal may be out of luck in their pursuit, though whether or not that is the case remains to be seen.
