Arsenal, Man Utd face fresh Declan Rice competition after ‘phone call’; West Ham star now ‘open’ to move in shock twist

Reputed transfer journalist Florian Plettenburg has claimed Arsenal target Declan Rice is open to joining Bayern Munich after speaking to Thomas Tuchel.
Arsenal, along with Manchester United have made the West Ham captain one of their top transfer targets. However, it now seems both their plans could be scuppered.
Rice has gained a reputation as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League. So, it would be a major coup for Bayern to get a deal over the line.
This season, the 24-year-old has made 49 appearances across all competitions, scoring five goals and making four assists in the process.
His consistent form over the last few seasons has gained him a regular spot in the England squad. So, there is no doubting his quality.
While West Ham have had a difficult time in the Premier League, Rice has helped his team to the Europa Conference League final.
If the Hammers beat Fiorentina, it will be their first major trophy since 1980. This would be a fitting way for Rice to end his career at the London club.
Tuchel phone call catches Rice’s attention
Now, according to Plettenberg, Rice had a positive phone call with Bayern boss Tuchel, and is now open to joining the German club.
On Twitter, he said: News Rice: “There was a phone call with Tuchel a few days ago! Been told it was a good talk.
“Both appreciate each other. Rice is open to join Bayern & Tuchel. FCB wants to intensify their efforts now. He’s still a transfer target.
“But: Time is running out as he could sign for Arsenal.”
Indeed, as reported by TEAMtalk, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has made Rice his transfer priority, as he looks to bolster his midfield.
However, Man Utd manager Erik ten Hag is also a huge fan of the Englishman, so the Red Devils also remain in the race for him, too.
But, if Plettenberg’s latest update is correct, it seems Bayern are ready to swoop for Rice this summer.
He will not come cheap, though, with West Ham slapping a £90m price tag on their star man – who is out of contract in June 2024.
As we head towards the transfer window opening on June 14, it will be interesting to see which club wins the race for Rice.
