Arteta tipped to brutally terminate contract of record-breaking Arsenal signing he doesn’t want
Arsenal are reportedly considering terminating Nicolas Pepe’s contract ahead of the transfer deadline as he struggles to find a new club.
Former Gunners manager Unai Emery bought the attacker in 2019 for a then-club record £72m fee, but he has never lived up to his hefty price tag.
He currently earns an eye-watering £140,000 per week with Arsenal, so it’s understandable that Arteta is desperate to get him off the books.
Pepe spent last season on loan with OGC Nice, where he failed to impress, and now he finds himself without any suitors at all as we near the end of the window.
The Ivory Coast international has less than 12 months remaining on his current contract at the Emirates Stadium and according to the Daily Mail, Arsenal are now said to be contemplating cutting their losses early.
Arteta was asked about Pepe’s situation earlier this summer after leaving the winger out of the pre-season squad. he “At the moment he is recovering from an injury which is why he’s not here,” the Spaniard explained at the time.
It now appears that Arsenal could pay off the remainder of Pepe’s deal as they look to trim down their somewhat overstocked squad.
