Arsenal backed to hijack blockbuster Liverpool transfer with Arteta driving a dagger into Klopp plan

Jude Bellingham, September 2022

Arsenal can become “just as attractive” as Man City to world class stars like Jude Bellingham and one observer has backed them to break Liverpool hearts over the midfield superstar.

The Gunners sit atop the Premier League table as domestic football gives way to the World Cup. Arsenal are clearly a club trending in the right direction with Edu pulling the strings and Mikel Arteta at the helm.

Doubling down on that promising tandem, Arsenal recently announced Edu has been promoted to Sporting Director – the club’s first ever appointment in that role.

A £94m spending spree has been touted for January to aid their title charge in the second half of the campaign. However, according to one pundit, the best may yet be to come in the summer.

The future of Jude Bellingham promises to be the transfer saga of the summer in 2023.

Borussia Dortmund retain hope of retaining him for another season, though the vultures are beginning to circle.

Real Madrid are his primary suitor from on the continent. The Premier League’s chasing pack consists of Liverpool, Chelsea, Man Utd and Man City.

Of that quartet, Liverpool are understood to have laid the most groundwork and are in close contact with Bellingham’s camp.

Owners FSG may have put the club up for sale, though the Daily Express reckon Bellingham could be signed as a ‘parting gift’ if they’re bought out next year.

Dortmund value Bellingham well into nine figures and his £100m+ price tag could swell further if he shines in Qatar.

However, according to former Chelsea full-back, Scott Minto, Arsenal may yet torpedo Liverpool’s hopes.

Liverpool in danger of missing out?

The Reds are seemingly banking on Bellingham being their midfield saviour. The central areas are Liverpool’s weakest position at present and Bellingham would go a long way to rectifying their woes.

But per Minto, the Reds are no lock to secure Champions League football – unlike Arsenal.

An inability to offer UCL football would harm Liverpool’s chances and Minto believes Arsenal are quickly becoming just as attractive of a proposition to join as Man City.

“Up until the start of this season, everybody was saying [Bellingham is] Liverpool’s player because they were right up there with Manchester City,” said Minto (via Football London).

“But I’m still wondering whether or not they’re going to make the top four.

“He’s good enough to play a key role for the very best teams in the world, and the very best team for me is Manchester City.

“But if Arsenal can finish in the top four, or better still, in second place, or even go on to win the title, then all of a sudden they become as attractive a proposition as City, just like that.

“When you look at what that team is all about under Mikel Arteta, and there’d be a need for them to strengthen if they’re playing on Europe’s biggest stage, why couldn’t they go and get a Bellingham?”

Arsenal are seeking midfield recruits

Arsenal are known to be hunting reinforcements in the engine room too.

They continue to be linked with Leicester City’s Youri Tielemans who coincidentally is also on Liverpool’s radar.

However, the Daily Mail recently reported Leicester are growing increasingly confident the Belgian will ultimately pen fresh terms at the King Power. His current deal expires next summer.

If Tielemans were to be removed from the equation and Arsenal do win the league, a more high profile pursuit of Bellingham could be explored.

A deal would be difficult to pull off, not least because of the strength of those competing for his signature as well as the cost.

However, Bellingham perfectly fits the profile of player Arsenal have targeted in recent windows and it’s unarguable he’d help establish them as a serial title contender moving forwards, perhaps at the expense of Liverpool.
