Barcelona plotting trio of signings with big implications for Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham

Franck Kessie, Fabian Ruiz

Barcelona are planning to follow the capture of Andreas Christensen by signing three players, which will have big implications for Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham.

According to ESPN, talks between Christensen and Barcelona are at an ‘advanced’ stage. He can join the Spanish club on a free transfer this summer once his Chelsea contract expires.

The deal will be a shrewd one for Barcelona due to two key reasons. Firstly, Christensen is one of the best defenders in the Premier League, so getting him for nothing is clever business.

Secondly, Barca’s finances are not in a great position – so improving their squad on the cheap is the best way forward.

It looks like Xavi’s side will continue to use free transfers to their benefit after Christensen’s capture is complete.

Fabrizio Romano claims Barca are working on three additional signings, all of which are impressive.

The first is for Ajax right-back Noussair Mazraoui. He has no intention of renewing in Amsterdam and is now weighing up his options ahead of a summer move.

Arsenal and Leeds are both hoping to land him, but Barca are in the driving seat. They made a contract offer to Mazraoui last week and it could be accepted.

The five-time Champions League winners are also aiming to snatch Cesar Azpilicueta from Chelsea’s grasp. The versatile defender has been at Stamford Bridge since 2012 but, like Christensen, will be a free agent this summer.

Azpilicueta hasn’t played in Spain since 2010 but Barca are working on a deal for him to return to La Liga.

Azpilicueta’s exit would be a huge blow to Chelsea, although they will be hoping his history in west London will keep him around.

The final star in Barca’s sights is Tottenham midfield target Franck Kessie. He is currently shining for Milan as they push to win their first Serie A title in 11 years.

Spurs chief Fabio Paratici wants to use his connections in Italy to land Kessie, but Barca believe they have the upper hand.

The Blaugrana are willing to offer him €6.5million (£5.5m) net salary per season.

PSG eye two Premier League managers

Meanwhile, Paris Saint-Germain have put two Premier League managers on their shortlist as potential options to replace Mauricio Pochettino.

The Daily Mirror claims Pochettino’s position is now untenable. The European woes, plus some underwhelming performances domestically, are set to cost the Argentine. And he could end up back in England with Manchester United.

PSG are still 15 points at the top of Ligue 1 table and romping to another title. However, that is not enough and L’Equipe, as per Marca, says that Tottenham boss Antonio Conte and Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta are both in consideration for the job in Paris.

Conte only took charge at Spurs in November but has already voiced concerns over the long-term project needed. Arteta, meanwhile, currently has the Gunners flying and sitting in the final Champions League place.
