Bruno Fernandes tells Arsenal fans what to expect from ‘quality’ Portuguese new boy Fabio Vieira

Porto attacking midfielder Fabio Vieira

Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes expects fellow midfielder Fabio Vieira to shine in the Premier League after his countryman joined Arsenal last week.

The Gunners completed their first major transfer of the summer after confirming the arrival of the impressive Vieira from Porto in deal worth £34million.

Vieira joins fellow signing signings goalkeeper Matt Turner and winger Marquinhos at The Emirates. More additions are also expected to follow in what will be a busy transfer window for the Gunners.

Attacking midfielder Vieira scored six times and notched an incredible 14 assists last term.

And Fernandes expects his ‘quality’ compatriot to impress once he gets used to his new surroundings.

The Red Devils star is, however, hoping Vieira has an off day when he comes up against United.

“I welcome all Portuguese players who go abroad. I hope he can shine to the fullest, except against me,” Fernandes told reporters in Portugal.

“Fábio has a lot of quality and has been demonstrating that. Whether in the FC Porto is in the Under-21s, he has had good numbers and good performances.

“I hope he succeeds like all the Portuguese out there. We have to start valuing what is ours and I hope that Fábio manages to be as good as possible. Despite of waiting to stay ahead.”

Vieira preparing for Premier League debut

Vieira will likely make his Premier League debut when Arsenal head to Crystal Palace on Friday August 5.

Mikel Arteta’s men are the opening act of the 2022-23 campaign, although a trip to face Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira prevents a tricky start.

Meanwhile, the Gunners are expected to announce Gabriel Jesus as their latest addition on Friday.

The Brazilian was pictured inside The Emirates on Thursday as Arsenal close in on a £45m deal for the Manchester City attacker.
