Saka pays tribute to Aubameyang and reveals aim to replicate striker’s dream Arsenal trait

Bukayo Saka celebrating

Bukayo Saka has revealed a desire to replicate Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang’s goalscoring form for Arsenal following the striker’s departure.

The Gabon international signed for the Gunners in January 2018 in a big-money move from Borussia Dortmund. He enjoyed a fantastic first two-and-a-half-seasons at Arsenal, subsequently earning a new contract.

However, he dropped off from there before disciplinary problems led to a breakdown in his relationship with boss Mikel Arteta. In fact, Arsenal decided to get rid earlier this season.

Aubameyang therefore moved to Barcelona on a free transfer. The 32-year-old has flourished under Xavi, scoring 10 goals in 16 appearances.

As captain of Arsenal for a while, he was a significant mentor for Saka. The 20-year-old has blossomed to become an even more crucial figure for the Gunners since Aubameyang‘s departure.

And Saka has now revealed a desire to emulate the striker’s goalscoring tendencies.

“This year you have seen how much of a team we’ve been,” the England international told MOTDx.

“That is the spark that we have to work for each other.

“Everyone is young and wants to give their all for Arsenal. What Auba brought was so many goals for the team and carried us in certain moments.

“When he was doing that I looked at him and thought I always wanted to be that guy. I hope I can score some important goals the way he has done.”

Heading into Wednesday’s Premier League clash with Chelsea, Saka had scored 10 goals in all competitions for Arsenal this campaign.

Seven of those came in the last 14 matches, with the wide player enjoying an impressive run of form of late.

Arsenal must focus on Saka future

Saka is both the present and future of Arsenal under Arteta and whoever eventually succeeds him at the Emirates Stadium.

Therefore, the priority for the Gunners now is to tie him to a new contract.

His current terms run out in the summer of 2024 and Liverpool and Manchester City have both had links with a move for him.

Saka set to be rewarded with big new Arsenal contract

Bukayo Saka is set to get his current wage quadrupled this summer as Arsenal are set to offer him £120,000 a week.

Arteta has confirmed that Arsenal will hold talks with the player and his representatives.

The situation is not an urgent one but is nevertheless becoming a pressing matter.
