Arsenal back in hunt for fearsome striker target as midfield teammate enters equation in nine-figure double raid
Arsenal have not lost sight of previous striker target Dusan Vlahovic, according to a report that reveals one of his Juventus teammates is on their radar too.
Vlahovic was one of the centre-forwards Arsenal were looking at when the year began. Aware that Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang would not be at the club much longer, they wanted an elite successor.
Ultimately, they were unable to bring in Vlahovic from Fiorentina, who sold him to Juventus instead. Arsenal did end up with an impressive striker of their own, though; they bought Gabriel Jesus from Manchester City in the summer.
The early signs have been positive; Arsenal sit top of the Premier League as of the September international break. Their new number nine has scored four goals and provided three assists from seven domestic appearances so far.
However, Calciomercatoweb are now predicting that Arsenal could raise the level of their attack further by revisiting their interest in Vlahovic.
Unlike Arsenal, Juventus have not enjoyed a good start to the season. Vlahovic has been one of their brighter sparks, with four goals in six league starts.
But several players are under pressure in Turin now, just as head coach Massimiliano Allegri is. There could be significant changes at Juventus in the future. Hence, Arsenal are keeping tabs on what that might mean for Vlahovic.
At least, that’s what Calciomercatoweb claim – while also adding that Arsenal are now looking at midfielder Fabio Miretti as well.
Miretti came into the Juventus first team towards the back end of last season. He has become a fully fledged first teamer this time around, featuring in all of their Serie A matches so far.
And with four of those seven league appearances coming as a starter, he is establishing himself as someone for whom there should be high hopes.
According to Calciomercatoweb, Miretti’s performances so far have caught Arsenal’s attention. Midfield may be another area they will need to address to keep their squad competitive.
Arsenal would have to make significant push to get Vlahovic and Miretti
The report from the Italian website predicts that a combined bid of €115million (around £102million) for Vlahovic and Miretti would be hard for Juventus to turn down.
That said, given their current predicament, it is hard to imagine them willingly parting with two players who are relatively new to their team. Vlahovic only joined in January and Miretti is still making his name as a 19-year-old.
It is also questionable whether Vlahovic would be up for joining them after holding out for Juventus earlier this year. He insisted the Bianconeri were the only club on his mind.
Arsenal would have to be convincing if they really wanted to sign both players. But they are definitely two young talents to keep an eye on in the months and years to come.
For what it’s worth, Vlahovic and Miretti are both under contract with Juventus until 2026.
