Arsenal have held a new meeting to discuss their chances of signing Eden Hazard on loan from Real Madrid, a report has revealed.
Hazard previously lit up the Premier League while playing for Arsenal’s London rivals, Chelsea. Since his 2019 transfer to Real Madrid, though, things have not gone to plan for the exciting winger.
Injuries have hampered his progress in the Spanish capital, turning a dream move into a nightmare. It has also been far from ideal for his employers, who are forking out a significant amount of money for his wages.
Therefore, it would be beneficial for Real to offload him in the summer. Aware that his market price has dropped, though, their plan is to send him somewhere on loan where he can regain some value.
Then, in the summer of 2023, when there will be one year left on his contract, they should be able to sell him for a better price if their strategy has paid off.
The club to benefit, according to Foot Mercato, could be Arsenal. They are interested in taking Hazard back to London, having already done business with Madrid for the likes of Dani Ceballos and Martin Odegaard in recent years.
Hazard would add attacking flair if he can rediscover his form and fitness. Therefore, it would be a high-profile signing for the Gunners. The fact he used to represent their rivals would give it an extra edge.
Foot Mercato are reporting that a meeting has recently taken place to discuss the potential loan deal. It is claimed that Arsenal are making “good progress” in their attempts to sign the 31-year-old.

Hazard has only scored six goals in 65 appearances for Real Madrid. In contrast, back in his Chelsea days, he managed 110 goals from 352 games.
Arsenal would therefore be hoping a return to London would bring out the best in Hazard again. Pursuing him seems like something of a calculated risk for the time being.

However, they may not be successful in their pursuit anyway. According to the report, the Belgium international still believes he can make the grade at the Bernabeu.
That means he could reject any approaches to lure him away from the Spanish capital. In turn, he would be willing to fight for his place.
Even with the likes of Paris Saint-Germain superstar Kylian Mbappe being targeted, Hazard could push to remain at Real’s disposal. Hence, Arsenal have their work cut out to convince him.
If they can qualify for the Champions League, that may boost their chances in theory. But Hazard’s specific thoughts about his old rivals are unclear as of this moment.
Coincidentally, there are no clubs against whom Hazard has scored more goals in his career than the seven he inflicted upon Arsenal.
