Arsenal lock on to prolific Bundesliga winger with incredible stats as affordable price tag causes shock

Moussa Diaby, Amine Adli, Bayer Leverkusen celebrate after Bundesliga win

Arsenal are ready to move on very quickly from their Mykhaylo Mudryk disappointment by moving for a Bundesliga winger who boasts some of the very best goalscoring statistics around.

The Gunners sit eight points clear at the top of the Premier League and will never have a better chance of ending their title drought. Mikel Arteta’s side last won the title way back in 2004. But a string of excellent performances – the latest being a comfortable derby win at Tottenham – have raised expectations.

In order to keep the Gunners on the right track, however, Arteta wants to add two signings to his squad this month.

And the Gunners boss wants a new midfield to come in, though his main priority remains in adding a new forward. The injury to Gabriel Jesus has left Arsenal a little short of options. And while Eddie Nketiah has performed really well, Arsenal don’t have too many options off the bench.

And with cover and competition sought for Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka, Arsenal made a strong play for Mudryk.

Sadly for Edu, they were pipped to the post by Chelsea in what was the ultimate transfer hijack. Ian Wright, though, was far from happy and admitting his bitterness, naming who he feels will most suffer from the transfer.

Still, Arsenal are unlikely to be licking their wounds for long and seemingly have other irons in the fire.

They were tentatively linked with summer target Raphinha again, though Barcelona’s valuation and the player’s stance soon vetoed those chances.

Another name strongly linked is Brighton’s Leandro Trossard, who has fallen out with his manager, Roberto De Zerbi.

And Orlando City winger, Facundo Torres, has also revealed he has received contact from Arsenal over a career-defining move.

Arsenal ready move for Moussa Diaby

However, according to Sky Deutschland, their main target may well be Bayer Leverkusen’s Moussa Diaby.

The Frenchman can operate off either flank, and boasts an excellent record since moving to the Bundesliga. Signing from PSG back in 2019, Diaby has 43 goals and 37 assists from 146 appearances. That ensures he has a goal involvement every 1.83 matches played – better than one every two appearances.

Capped eight times by France, his contract at Bayer ties him to the club until summer 2025. Therefore, prising him away will not be easy.

Still only 23, Diaby was linked with a move to Newcastle over the summer. At the time, it was claimed they were seeking closer to the £70m mark.

And while that asking price is likely to remain in place, there are hopes that Arsenal could structure the deal in a similar fashion to what they were prepared to do with Mudryk. Indeed, any deal for Mudryk would ultimately have set Arsenal back £75m. At around £5m less – and boasting somewhat better stats than the Ukrainian – Arsenal may well feel his fee is certainly affordable.

And his ability to play off either flank is a nice-added bonus. That would give Arteta the luxury of having cover for both his star boy wingers.

At just 23 too, he would also still fit into the Arsenal transfer mould.

The main question, though, perhaps, evolves around whether the Bundesliga side would be willing to sell mid-season.

Nonetheless, Sky Deutschland is expecting Edu to lock on to Diaby this month and make the winger his new No 1 target.
