Arsenal are hoping to land another “under-the-radar” signing before the end of the month, while Hector Bellerin has requested the club release him from his contract.
After the arrivals of Gabriel Jesus, Matt Turner, Fabio Viera, Marquinhos and Oleksandr Zinchenko, the Gunners are focused on outgoings at The Emirates. But there could still be room for one new addition, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta and transfer chief Edu are working open to another incoming deal.
Deals for man City pair Jesus and Zinchenko were well documented. While the arrival of Turner from the New England Revolution was agreed in February.
However, the summer arrival of Fabio Vieira came out of the blue. The highly-rated midfielder signed from Porto for £34m, including add-ons in a deal which was kept quiet until his arrival at the end of June. And Romano claims Arsenal could be lining up another hush-hush transfer.
“Arsenal’s priority was and still is the outgoings. After Torreira and Pablo Mari, Runarsson has signed on loan to Alanyaspor and Hector Bellerin hopes to terminate the contract to return to Spain as soon as possible,” Romano said in his CaughtOffside column.
“Still, I’m aware that Edu and Mikel Arteta are exploring options for another Arsenal signing. But always with the names under the radar.”
Leicester’s Youri Tielemans has been linked with a move to the club. But that’s a deal that cannot be considered hush-hush given the constant summer speculation.
Caicedo, who left his native Ecuador in January last year, has thrived at Brighton. And the £4.5m they paid Independiente for him looks well spent.
Bellerin asks for contract to be ripped up
Caicedo got his first goal for the Seagulls in a famous 4-0 win over Manchester United in May. And he put in another stellar performance in the win over the Red Devils in the first game of the season.
Edu has overseen the departures Matteo Guendouzi, Lucas Torreira and Bernd Leno. But there are likely to be more departures this summer. And Bellerin is set to be the next out of the exit door.
Romano says the Spaniard is hoping to terminate his contract at the Emirates Stadium and return to Spain as soon as possible. Bellerin, 27, has requested that his £110,00-a-week contract at the club is cancelled as he enters the final 12 months of his deal.
Bellerin was on loan at Real Betis last season and has not featured since returning in the summer.
The right-back made 32 appearances in all competitions as Los Verdiblancos won the Copa del Rey. And Betis are keen on a permanent deal for the defender as long as he is granted a free transfer.
