Edu plots Mudryk revenge as Arsenal look to hijack Chelsea pursuit of stunning Serie A star

Arsenal could be set to take revenge on Chelsea after they hijacked their deal for Mykaylo Mudryk, by signing their target Denzel Dumfries from Inter Milan.

The Gunners are reportedly ready to swoop in and sign the full-back next summer, despite the Blues being linked with him for a long time.

With Mikel Arteta’s team flying at the moment, a move to the Emirates could prove to be a more appealing move to the Dutchman.

Arsenal’s current backup right-back, Takehiro Tomiyasu, made a disastrous mistake against Manchester City on Wednesday, which gifted a golden opportunity to Kevin de Bruyne.

Now, it looks like Arteta could look to reinforce that area next season and Dumfries is now top of the Spaniard’s transfer shortlist, according to reports coming out of Spain

The Netherlands international has been closely monitored by both Chelsea and Manchester United in recent months, but Arsenal could now scupper both of their plans.

The reports suggest that Inter need to generate around £53m from player sales in the summer due to their ongoing financial issues – so the Italian giants could be forced into selling some of their star players.

Dumfries certainly fits into that category, after putting in some fantastic performances in Serie A.

This season, the defender has made 19 league appearances for the Nerazzuri, scoring one goal and making three assists, as well as helping his team to six clean sheets so far.

Arsenal could swoop for Dumfries in the summer

In December, Dumfries addressed the speculation over his future, after scoring for the Netherlands at the World Cup in Qatar.

The 26-year-old said: “Of course, it’s a big compliment to be linked with Chelsea, but playing for Inter it’s a big compliment too.

“Chelsea move in January? I’m focused on nothing else but the national team and Inter.”

Then, during the winter window, his agent Rafael Pimenta issued an update on the speculation. He said:  “Denzel has played a great World Cup.

“I think Inter are happy [with him]. Today, he is an Inter player, he has the Nerazzurri colours in his heart. Then we’ll see what happens.”

Despite the clear interest from the blue side of London, Arsenal are now reportedly looking to make a summer bid for Dumfries, so it will be interesting to see if the rivals end up in a bidding war with each other.

As mentioned, Arsenal is arguably the more attractive destination for the Dutchman, as they look like they will almost certainly be in the Champions League next season, and are still very much in the title race.

However, despite Chelsea sitting in a disappointing tenth place in the Premier League table, they have signed some fantastic players this season, bringing in the likes of Enzo Fernandez and, of course, former Arsenal target Mykhaylo Mudryk.

Inter will likely try and get as much money as possible for Dumfries in the summer if he does indeed leave the San Siro. But, due to their ongoing financial woes, the Italian giants may be powerless to prevent his departure.
