Euro Paper Talk: Crafty Edu plots incredible double Arsenal raid on Inter, AC Milan to boost title bid; Everton eye deadly Portuguese striker

Arsenal are pushing to make exciting raids on both AC Milan and Inter Milan in January, Everton are in the market for a prolific Portuguese striker, while Wednesday’s Euro Paper Talk has an update on Liverpool’s push to sign a Ghananian World Cup star.

Arsenal are reportedly leading the chase to sign Inter Milan star Hakan Calhanoglu in January.

The Turkey attacker is reportedly up for sale at the Italian giants with his deal due to expire in 18 months time. And while he has featured regularly in Simone Izaghi’s side this season, Inter hope his sale will allow them to renew deals for the likes of Milan Skriniar and Denzel Dumfries.

As a result, reports in Italy claim the 28-year-old will be allowed to leave for a modest fee of around £25.9m (€30m).

Per InterLive, his situation has caught the attention of new Aston Villa boss Unai Emery.

However, it the Gunners are also keen with Edu believing the addition of the talented star can give their title hopes a timely boost. And with Champions League football likely to be on offer next season, they are emerging as favourites for his signing.

Calhangolu can operate as an attacking midfielder of off either wing, giving Mikel Arteta the cover he needs for Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli.

The Turkey star has three goals and five assists this season from 20 appearances for Inter Milan.

Gunners also want Ismael Bennacer to follow Calhanoglu

Calhanoglu looks like he may also be part of a double Arsenal raid on Milan clubs this January too. Indeed, reports on Tuesday evening revealed the club are also readying an approach for former midfielder Ismael Bennacer.

The Algerian is in talks with Milan over a new deal with his current arrangement due to expire in 2024.

Now represented by Enzo Raiola, who is helping to run the Mino Raiola empire, Bennacer’s demands are likely to be deemed too high for Milan.

And with the Serie A champions having lost the likes of Franck Kessie, Gianluigi Donnarumma and Calhanoglu to free transfers in the past, they are wary of being caught out once again.

As such, il Gazzetta dello Sport claims Arsenal lead the charge to sign the midfielder in 2023. At this stage it is not clear whether any potential move would go through in January or the summer. But Arteta and Edu would push to make a deal happen in the winter window with a new midfielder very much among their top transfer priorities.
