Fabrizio Romano hands Arteta ideal Arsenal update with senior star to reject European suitors and stay at Emirates

An Arsenal player will not be going anywhere this summer as Fabrizio Romano has assured fans they can ‘rest easy’ over his future.

Arsenal have yet to complete their first signing of the 2023 summer transfer window, although it is highly likely to be West Ham star Declan Rice. Mikel Arteta’s side have pushed Bayern away to put themselves in pole position for the midfielder.

As per the latest from TEAMtalk transfer insider Graeme Bailey, Arsenal have some negotiating to do before they can reach an agreement with West Ham. This is because the Irons still want £100million plus add-ons for their prized asset, whereas Arsenal only really want to go up to the £90m mark.

Despite the two different valuations, it is widely expected that Arsenal will win the race for Rice, who has previously been linked with Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City.

His arrival in North London will see fellow midfielder Granit Xhaka depart. He will return to the Bundesliga by joining Bayer Leverkusen, having previously represented Borussia Monchengladbach.

One player who has been tipped to follow Xhaka out of Arsenal is Italy star Jorginho. He swapped Chelsea for Arsenal in January as the Gunners paid £12m to sign him on a contract lasting until June 2024.

Jorginho made 16 appearances for Arsenal in the second half of the campaign as they lost out on the Premier League title to City.

Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport have suggested the 31-year-old might consider leaving Arsenal this summer as he is not always a regular starter under Arteta. Playing more often would ensure Jorginho keeps his place in the Italy squad for the 2024 Euros.

Jorginho to snub Italy return and remain at Arsenal

Jorginho has been linked with a move to Lazio, where he could reunite with manager Maurizio Sarri. The pair have a great relationship following their time together at Napoli and then Chelsea.

Arsenal have been backed to accept a £12m offer from Lazio, which would see them simply make their money back on the deep-lying midfielder.

However, Romano has shut down rumours Jorginho will leave the Emirates ahead of next season. During an interview with CaughtOffside, the journalist said: “Arsenal fans can rest easy – my understanding for the moment is that Jorginho is happy at Arsenal and has good chances to stay at the club, despite rumours about a reunion with Maurizio Sarri at Lazio this summer.

“Jorginho only just joined back in January and made an impressive start, even if he isn’t likely to be as much of a regular and focal point of the team as he was during his peak years at Chelsea. Still, to reiterate, there is nothing serious or advanced with Lazio or any other club.

“Remember as well – Granit Xhaka is expected to leave. A deal is in place with Bayer Leverkusen, which can go through once Arsenal complete the signing of Declan Rice. We’ll see if things change later in the summer, but I’m not sure Arsenal would lose both Xhaka and Jorginho in the same window.”

It seems Arsenal will keep Jorginho next season to rely on his expertise. He could prove to be a great midfield role model for Rice, helping to turn the 24-year-old into an even bigger star.

If Jorginho manages to get more game time next term and starts to make an impact, then he could earn a contract extension too. But if Jorginho spends more time on the bench, then Arsenal will probably let him leave on a free transfer. This would allow him to return to Italy and potentially complete that Sarri reunion which has been talked about.

Meanwhile, one of Arteta’s strategies at Arsenal has been so successful that Mauricio Pochettino is considering copying it for Chelsea, as per one source.
