Familiar name crops up as Fabrizio Romano outlines two positions Arsenal will reinforce for title push

Arsenal will react to their unexpected lofty Premier League position by further strengthening two key areas in January, according to a trusted source.
The Gunners spent close to £120m during the summer transfer window, with five players arriving. Boss Mikel Arteta was hoping to take the next step after narrowly missing out on a place in the Champions League. And his recruitment drive has paid off, with the north Londoners sitting pretty at the top of the Premier League table.
With just defeat to Manchester United as the only blemish on their record, they are four points clear of the chasing pack.
Gabriel Jesus was a big-money summer acquisition and the Brazil international tops the club’s league goal scoring chart with five.
Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli both have four while Martin Odegaard has found the net on three occasions.
Oleksandr Zinchenko, Fabio Vieira, Matt Turner and Marquinhos were also brought in. But the Emirates outfit missed out on a few targets during the off-season.
They tried to lure Douglas Luiz to the club but Aston Villa refused to play ball on that deal.
And, possibly punching above their weight at present, Fabrizio Romano feels Arsenal will continue to invest to keep the feelgood factor going.
“Arsenal have always been optimistic for this season, but not expecting to be top of the league and four points clear in October,” he told CaugthtOffside.
“They will keep going step by step, game by game with the aim to improve the whole project with new contracts, new players in the future and more.”
Romano hints at Arteta’s priorities
Arsenal have looked superb going forward, with 24 goals scored in the top flight to date.
Having been close to the sack a few years ago, Arteta has now been roundly praised for his work.
Whether they can maintain a title push only time will tell. But a top-fourth berth is certainly on the cards.
The one stumbling block will be if the Spanish tactician has to deal with injuries as the campaign progresses. And with the Gunners also flying in the Europa League, the workload on the players is unlikely to decrease.
That is why the recruitment team will already be looking towards the winter window. And Romano is adamant that Arteta will not hesitate to bring in new attacking stars if the chance arises.
“They will be ready in case there will be good opportunities,” he added. “Midfielder and winger were two possibilities considered in the summer and still in the potential plans. But it depends on the players.”
Leicester star a perfect fit
Youri Tielemans has been heavily linked with Arsenal over the past 12 months. The Belgium international remains with Leicester.
But, with the Foxes struggling at the wrong end of the table, he may seek a January exit. And Romano believes it would be a match made in heaven.
“I think Arsenal need at least one more midfielder to help Arteta’s rotation. I’d have loved to see Youri Tielemans there,” he continued.
Tielemans has looked a shadow of his former self at King Power Stadium this term.
Arteta has shown an ability to get the best out of his youngsters.
And, with reports that owner Stan Kroenke is reportedly prepared to dip into the coffers, he may be a winter target.
