Arsenal make contact for wide man Federico Dimarco, as price that will make Inter tremble revealed

Arsenal have asked about Inter Milan left-back Federico Dimarco in view of the summer transfer window, according to a report in Italy.

After finishing fifth in the Premier League, Arsenal are looking for reinforcements to help them take the next steps. A return to the Champions League was within reach this season, but now they will have to wait a while longer.

It could be an important transfer window for them as their squad evolves into one capable of finishing in the top four.

One of the players now on their radar, according to Tuttomercatoweb, is Dimarco.

Dimarco came through the youth ranks of his hometown club, Inter, but had to endure five spells away from the club before his reintegration. The 2021-22 season was his first full one as a member of their senior squad.

The 24-year-old helped his side win the Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana, coming on in the final of each as a substitute. Even before those honours, he had earned a contract extension until 2026.

But that hasn’t deterred Arsenal from being an interested party, TMW claim. In fact, the Gunners are said to have made an enquiry about the former Italy youth international.

In turn, they have learned that Inter are not prioritising the exit of Dimarco. However, the Serie A side may need to sacrifice some players for financial reasons.

Therefore, if Arsenal were to make an offer of between €20-25million (£17.1m-£21.3m), Inter could reconsider their stance.

It would likely require some thinking from Dimarco too, since he currently plays for the team he supports. But Inter also have Robin Gosens in his position.

Federico Dimarco an upgrade on Tavares but deserves more than backup role

In contrast, if he was to move to Arsenal, Dimarco would be competing for a place with Kieran Tierney and Nuno Tavares.

Tierney has established himself as a reliable player for Arsenal. However, some questions have been asked of 2021 signing Tavares, despite a promising start to his time at the Emirates Stadium.

Dimarco, who made 42 appearances in all competitions this season, could be an upgrade. He has built on the promise he showed on loan with Hellas Verona and has a big few years ahead of him.

There is a chance he could be spending them in the Premier League if Arsenal can get their man. But Inter have Champions League football and Mikel Arteta’s side do not yet.

Therefore, there are factors working against Arsenal’s favour for now. It is easy to see why Dimarco may want to remain with the club he is fond of.

But he would be a reliable addition if he was to join Arsenal thanks to his ability in either direction.
