Gabriel Jesus transfer news: Interest aplenty, but agent says Arsenal move a ‘serious possibility’

The agent of Manchester City forward Gabriel Jesus says a transfer to Arsenal is a “serious possibility” but claimed there is other interest in the player.

Jesus has made 39 appearances for City this season, scoring 13 goals and grabbing 12 assists. He has been a valued member of the squad for Pep Guardiola, who has led City to the verge of another title without a No 9.

Jesus, 25, has played wide for much of the season and has returned decent numbers for Guardiola. Still his place could be in doubt next season and talks with Arsenal have taken place.

The Brazilian is under contract for one more season in Manchester and if City are going to sell then this summer seems as good a time as any.

The Gunners are looking for forward options and Jesus could be a good fit for Mikel Arteta.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang left in January, while Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah could both leave at the end of the season when their contracts expire.

Jesus’ representative Marcelo Pettinati has admitted that positive discussions have been held with the north London club. But he also claimed six other clubs were also interested.

“We had discussions with Arsenal about Gabriel Jesus and yes, we like the project,” Pettinati told Fabrizio Romano.

“It’s a serious possibility so we’re discussing.

“There are six more clubs interested in Gabriel Jesus. He’s now focused on final games with Manchester City, then we’ll see what happens.”

Guardiola said after last month’s win over Watford that he was unsure about Jesus’ future.

“I want to tell you something, Gabriel is our player. I don’t know what is going to happen but he is a Manchester City player,” said Guardiola.

“If he doesn’t play he’s there training the day after like it’s his last day, that’s why he will have a long career, he will have a successful career because of the incredible positivity in his mind and thinks for the team.”

City have of course agreed to pay £51m for Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund. That deal is expected to be finalise soo with the Norwegian set to pen a lengthy contract at The Etihad.

Guardiola has also secured a deal for City Argentine striker Julian Alvarez. And he may well have told Jesus his game time will be at a premium next season.

The Brazil star will also be keen to secure more playing time ahead of Brazil’s World Cup campaign in Qatar in November and December.

Brazilian outlet UOL have claimed City will seek a €60m (£51.2m) fee for Jesus. However, they may be willing to down to €50m (£42.7m) depending on how negotiations go with Arsenal.
