A report has given a double update on the futures of Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhaes and Juventus midfielder Arthur Melo.
Arsenal were hoping to sign Brazil international Arthur during the January transfer window. But after plenty of speculation, the deal fell through and the 25-year-old spent the rest of the campaign in Turin.
In May, it was revealed Juventus were keen on landing Gabriel from the Gunners. They reportedly want him to replace Giorgio Chiellini in central defence.
Chiellini will link up with MLS side Los Angeles FC after opting to leave Juve this summer.
With Arthur a target for Arsenal and Gabriel wanted by Juve, there have been suggestions of a potential swap deal.
Sport Witness come in with an update, while citing Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport. They claim Arsenal are planning to go back in for Arthur, after failing to capture him in the winter.
Arsenal’s transfer chances are boosted by the fact Juve need to sell players over the next few months. Arthur is apparently at the ‘the top of the list’ to leave, which could see him end up at the Emirates.
Juve are considering a loan exit for the playmaker. This wouldn’t give them a transfer fee, but it would help to get most of his wages off their books.
Arsenal face rival in Arthur Melo pursuit
The report reveals Monaco have also made an approach to sign Arthur, giving Arsenal some competition for his services.
The player’s future is now up to his agent, Federico Pastorello. Juve have tasked the representative with finding the ‘right solution’.
There is also a small update on Gabriel. It seems a swap deal is no longer a possibility, as Juve’s interest in the 24-year-old has ‘cooled down’.
This means there is a good chance Arsenal will be able to bolster their ranks by signing Arthur, without having to worry about Gabriel leaving.
Arthur would be a good option for Mikel Arteta to have in central midfield. His time at Juve hasn’t gone exactly to plan, but he is still a classy operator.
The move is less likely to happen now Arsenal have brought in Fabio Vieira from Porto. The attacking midfielder cost £34m, meaning Arsenal have less funds to spend on Arthur.
The positive news for Mikel Arteta’s side is Juve cooling their interest in Gabriel. He has become an important player since joining from Lille and Arsenal may struggle if he left.
Meanwhile, Eddie Nketiah has finalised his future by signing a new Arsenal deal, picking up an iconic Gunners shirt in the process.
