Major Arsenal contract news as top star prepares to sign massive new deal and commit long-term future to Gunners

Arsenal could be given a big lift amid claims one of their best players is about to pen a new £200,000-a-week contract.
Arsenal are finally being rewarded for their faith in manager Mikel Arteta. Along with club chief Edu Gaspar, he has helped to create a top squad at the Emirates. And Arsenal are now challenging for their first Premier League title since 2003-04.
They sit top of the table after 14 games, having won 12 of them. They even have a five-point lead on pre-season favourites and reigning champions Manchester City.
Clearly, it is still early in the Prem campaign, which is partly down to the World Cup. It will be fascinating to see whether Arsenal can continue where they left off and push City all the way this season, or whether City’s experience will help them go top.
If Arsenal want to continue being successful after this year, they need to keep all of their best players in north London. And it looks like they have agreed a big deal to keep Gabriel Martinelli.
According to a report from the Daily Mail, the left winger is set to sign a huge new contract at Arsenal. It will be worth around £200k per week, making Martinelli one of the top earners at the club.
Martinelli has been picking up interest from some big European clubs in recent months, due to his impressive performances for Arsenal. As per Spanish outlet Sport, Barcelona are ‘very attentive’ to his situation. Martinelli has also been backed to join either Real Madrid or Juventus in the future.
But he is thought to be ‘very happy’ in London. And his priority has always been to stay at Arsenal, which explains the fresh terms.
Arsenal star on verge of signing new contract
Martinelli’s current Gunners contract runs until summer 2024. So they needed to move quickly to tie him down to a new one, otherwise an exit could have taken place next year.
As things stand though, the 21-year-old will commit his long-term future to Arsenal. The report doesn’t reveal how long his new deal will last. But presumably it will keep him with the Gunners until 2026 or beyond.
Martinelli’s stock rose even higher when he made the Brazil squad for the World Cup. He was selected alongside other great wingers such as Neymar, Vinicius Jr, Rodrygo and Raphinha.
Martinelli played a full 90 minutes in the 1-0 defeat to Cameroon in the group stage. He also managed just under 20 minutes during the 4-1 victory over South Korea.
The Arsenal star didn’t get any appearances in the knockout rounds though. And Brazil crashed out of the tournament in the quarter-finals, losing to Croatia on penalties.
Gabriel Martinelli extension will make Arsenal supporters happy
Arsenal fans will be delighted about Martinelli opting to stay. He has been integral to their success this season, along with fellow winger Bukayo Saka.
Martinelli has made that spot on the left side of attack his own. And he has chipped in with five goals and two assists in 14 Prem outings so far.
Arsenal are also in talks with Saka over a contract extension. Like Martinelli, his current deal runs out in June 2024.
Getting both Martinelli and Saka to remain at the club would be a major help as Arteta eyes more title challenges in future campaigns.
Recently, Jamie Carragher asked Arteta about whether Martinelli could move centrally to cover for compatriot Gabriel Jesus, who is recovering from knee surgery. The manager said Martinelli would remain out wide, suggesting Arsenal could sign a new centre-forward.
