Gabriel Martinelli future: Arsenal star issues definitive contract statement by confirming crunch talks underway

Gabriel Martinelli has confirmed that he is in talks with Arsenal about a new contract, following his standout display against Liverpool.
The Brazilian scored the opener before assisting Bukayo Saka as the Gunners beat the Reds 3-2. It was a statement Premier League win for Arsenal, who have a poor overall record against Liverpool.
But, it also meant Arsenal stayed at the top of the Premier League table after handing Tottenham their first defeat of the campaign earlier in October.
And for Martinelli, it was another fantastic display to cement the 21-year-old’s progress this season. He netted his fourth league goal this term and notched his second assist.
As a result, there is a clamour from fans to ensure he feels committed to Mikel Arteta’s Emirates Stadium project. Recent reports have claimed that the Gunners are in advanced talks over new terms for the attacker.
Martinelli has now in fact confirmed such talks, insisting that he currently sees himself nowhere but Arsenal.
“Of course, I want to stay,” he said. “We are talking. Let’s see what is going to happen. But I want to stay, of course
“I think it’s my best season here at Arsenal. I’m so happy for this moment.”
Martinelli said Arsenal “dream” about winning the Premier League title, but he added that the focus is only on the next game.
Martinelli focused on Arsenal short-term
“We leave that [talking about it] to the fans. We only think about the next game and trying to win,” he said.
“I think we need to keep our feet on the floor and go game by game and try to win all of them.”
I enjoyed it a lot, it was a great game and I think it’s a game that everyone wants to play, not just me, I think all of the players enjoyed the game,” Martinelli added on Sunday’s clash.
Arsenal return to Premier League action next Sunday when facing Leeds United at Elland Road.
On Thursday, they play Bodo/Glimt away from home in the Europa League.
Gunners star is the present and the future
Martinelli is already a crucial part of the Arsenal team and he is still only 21.
As such, while he is very much the present of the Gunners team, he is also the future if he signs a new contract.
Arsenal would unlikely get as much of an impact – at least not straight away – if they went out and signed a new winger.
It is therefore crucial that they tie Martinelli – as well as Saka on the other flank – down to new contracts.
England star Saka has also confirmed that he wants to sign a new contract, which is similarly good news for the Gunners.
