‘Interest is growing’ in Arsenal striker target Gianluca Scamacca; Gunners yet to make an approach

Sassuolo chief Giovanni Carnevali has admitted “interest is growing” in Arsenal target Gianluca Scamacca, though the Gunners are yet to make an offer.

Arsenal have been linked with a move for Scamacca for a few months. The striker has been in top form over the last season, hence the interest.

Indeed, Scamacca bagged 16 goals in 36 games for Sassuolo in the recently-concluded season. He finished as the sixth-highest goalscorer in Serie A.

With Arsenal confirming Alexandre Lacazette will move on this summer, it appears they need a new striker.

The Gunners have been linked with a few forwards of late. Gabriel Jesus appears to be top of the list, but Scamacca’s name has frequently cropped up too.

Sassuolo chief Carnevali has revealed Arsenal‘s potential pursuit may become harder.

“There’s nothing concrete yet for Scamacca, just some contacts with some clubs,” he told Sky Sports.

“Of course, after playing with the national team the interest is now growing.”

Indeed, Scamacca has now played five times for the Italian national team, though is yet to score.

He played 45 minutes in the CONMEBOL-UEFA Cup of Champions against Argentina last week. He also played 85 minutes against Germany the following game.

Scamacca could thrive for Arsenal

Despite the Gunners having not made an offer for Scamacca yet, he could well thrive if they do manage to bring him in. The Premier League is one of the strongest in the league, and the Italian is an imposing figure, at 6ft4in.

What’s more, he clearly knows where the net is, following his 16-goal season. He outscored Victor Osimhen in Serie A, and the Nigerian has been tipped for a big-money move to the Premier League.

Clearly, the sides that are interested in Osimhen feel that he will have an impact in England. Given Scamacca’s form over the past season, he could well do the same.

While him not having scored for Italy yet may be a concern, it could be a matter of time before he comes good on the international stage.

It remains to be seen whether or not Arsenal do sign the striker. If there are a number of clubs interested, it may prove a difficult task.
