Arsenal go big with ambitious Bayern Munich enquiry as forward considers shock exit

Bayern Munich forwards Sadio Mane and Leroy Sane

Arsenal are among a cluster of clubs to enquire about Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sane, and a report has revealed both his and the club’s feelings on a surprise exit.

The signing of Sane from Man City back in 2020 was viewed as a serious coup for Bayern Munich. The lively winger was and remains one of Germany’s finest stars and bringing him back to the Bundesliga was an impressive feat.

His deal could ultimately cost €60m pending the activation of future add-ons. Aged 24 at the time, many believed Sane would be a mainstay in Bavaria in a similar manner to Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben before him.

However fast forward two years and Sane faces a battle to start each and every week.

The presence of Sadio Mane, Serge Gnabry, Kingsley Coman and Thomas Muller, among others, make for a hotly-contested selection battle.

As such, 90min report Sane is ‘considering his options’ with his game-time not as assured as he might’ve expected.

Arsenal are reportedly among a series of clubs to make an enquiry. The Gunners are known to be hunting a ready-made wide forward – potentially in January – to ease the burden on Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli.

The pair have been nothing short of sensational this season, though Mikel Arteta is keen to avoid being over-reliant on the duo.

Squad depth will become increasingly important in the second half of the season with the World Cup throwing up an extremely congested fixture list.

Mykhaylo Mudryk is another on their watchlist, but per 90min, an approach for Sane has been lodged.

Bayern, Sane responses to Arsenal enquiry

However, it’s claimed Bayern have zero intention of letting Sane go, especially mid-season.

While they’re still yet to sign a direct replacement for Robert Lewandowski, it’s noted the club are content to see out the season with the options they currently have at their disposal.

The player himself is stated to be considering his future in Bavaria. However, he reportedly won’t push for an exit and trusts manager Julian Nagelsmann to give him a fair crack of the whip.

As such, what always appeared an ambitious enquiry is likely to prove unsuccessful barring a remarkable reversal of fortune.

Shakhtar Donetsk’s Mudryk has drawn stronger links with Arsenal than Sane, though his price tag recently soared.
