Arsenal are ‘ready to satisfy’ Inter Milan’s requests to help sign a Man Utd and Chelsea target in January, though doing so would require sending a popular Gunners star the other way, per a report.
The January window promises to be an intriguing one at the top end of the Premier League. Arsenal recently confirmed Gabriel Jesus has undergone knee surgery and the Sun and Fabrizio Romano claimed he could be facing up to three months on the sidelines.
That might force the Gunners into firming up their plans to sign reinforcements in the final third, with Ukraine stand-out Mykhaylo Mudryk in their sights.
Elsewhere, Chelsea hope to wrap up a colossal double coup before the winter window even opens. They’ve also been linked with Inter Milan’s Denzel Dumfries, as have Manchester United.
The right wing-back, 26, is shining brightly for the Netherlands in Qatar and was recently labelled “breathless” for his pulsating goalscoring display against the USA.
Dumfries is being targeted as strong competition for Reece James at Stamford Bridge. His primary back-up, Cesar Azpilicueta, is 33.
Alternatively, Dumfries could accelerate an Aaron Wan-Bissaka exit at Old Trafford and supersede Diogo Dalot in Erik ten Hag’s pecking order at right-back. Wan-Bissaka is wanted by two Premier League sides next month.
Dumfries’ valuation is soaring with each passing game in Qatar. The latest from Fabrizio Romano suggested signing Dumfries will require a “huge bid”. The player’s agent is even beginning to grow concerned Dumfries’ exploits in Qatar are pricing himself out of a move.
But according to Italian outlet Calciomercato, Arsenal are also in the frame for Dumfries who Inter are expected to sell in 2023 to help balance the books.
Arsenal can sign Dumfries, but terms won’t be popular
The report states the Gunners are ‘ready to satisfy’ Inter’s demands, though fans of the north London club might not like what they’re about to read.
It’s claimed Inter will ‘give the go-ahead’ for Arsenal to sign Dumfries providing they offer €40m (approx. £34.5m) and Takehiro Tomiyasu.
The Japan international is reportedly valued around the €25m (approx. £21.5m) mark, bringing the total value of the proposed package for Dumfries to £56m.
Should that scenario unfold, Tomiyasu would revert to the position he most frequently played at Bologna – centre-half.
Inter reportedly view Tomiyasu as a fine replacement for Stefan de Vrij who is expected to leave for free next summer.
Tomiyasu has predominantly played at right-back for Arsenal, though has also deputised centrally and at left-back.
He’s a popular player among the fanbase despite struggling for starts this season. Ben White has become Arteta’s No 1 at right-back, though a Tomiyasu exit would ruffle feathers.
If the controversial cash-plus-player deal were okayed by both clubs, the report adds a move in June – not January – is most likely.
However, it stands to reason any such framework of the move would be put in place well in advance.
