Arsenal agree finer details of next major January transfer as Fabrizio Romano drops massive update ahead of Man Utd clash

Arsenal have reportedly reached a full agreement with Spezia to finalise the transfer of Jakub Kiwior – with Fabrizio Romano providing a major update on the deal and the Serie A side’s head coach pointing an angry finger at the Gunners.

Mikel Arteta’s side are top of the Premier League with a five-point buffer on reigning champions Manchester City. But Sunday promises to be a pivotal day in the title race with two key games likely to have a huge say on who becomes champions.

First up, Pep Guardiola’s side tackle Wolves at the Etihad with a win seeing them cut them gap to just two points. Given it was eight points just three days ago, that would seriously put the pressure on the Gunners.

Arsenal themselves then face a gigantic showdown with Manchester United. A win will give them renewed belief they can end their 19-year title drought; a loss will very much also put Erik ten Hag’s side right into the race.

In order to maximise Arsenal’s prospects, Arteta hopes to bolster his squad with a number of key signings. And signing No 1 arrived has already arrived with Leandro Trossard signing in a £27m deal from Brighton.

He will provide Arsenal with another attacking option, as well as cover and competition for Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli.

Arteta, though, also wants midfield recruits to strengthen his squad. And Sunday’s Transfer Gossip revealed a Real Madrid star was happy to drop a hint towards a possible move.

However, any possible midfielder addition will likely be beaten by the signing of Kiwior.

Reports on Friday revealed Arsenal were closing on agreement with Spezia for the Polish defender. Now it seems the Gunners have reached a full agreement with the Serie A side over the signing.

Fabrizio Romano provides huge Jakub Kiwior to Arsenal update

Now trusted transfer journalist Romano has provided a major update on the deal.

Quoting the player’s agent, he claims the deal will now go through on Monday or Tuesday.

And the 22-year-old will be in attendance on Sunday at Emirates Stadium to watch his new team battle Manchester United.

Romano tweeted: ‘Jakub Kiwior agent: “Just before New Year, he had a phone conversation with Mikel Arteta discussing many details… he was enchanted”, tells @Meczykipl #AFC

“Jakub will sign on Monday/Tuesday for Arsenal – he will be in VIP Box for the game vs United.”

Per widespread reports, Arsenal will pay a fee of around £17.5m for the nine-times capped Poland international. He will sign a five-and-a-half-year deal until summer 2028.

With two and a half years left on his deal, the money looks a shrewd investment for Arsenal.

Spezia coach reveals frustration at Arsenal transfer

However, not everyone is happy at the prospective transfer. And Spezia’s head coach Luca Gotti admits the immiment move ‘frustrates him’.

“I am very happy for Kiwior and this opportunity he created for himself,” Gotti said.

“It is also the biggest sale in Spezia’s history and I imagine the club is happy with that too.

“However, I cannot be happy with it. There are coaches who constantly complain and ask for reinforcements, that is not me but I am often in a situation where my clubs sell at a big profit.

“That doesn’t mean the players who arrive to replace them are worse, they are merely less ready to deliver.

“It is frustrating for a coach, as when you work to build them up, you then don’t get to enjoy the fruits of your labour, as they are sold and you press the reset button.”

With a deal for Kiwior all-but sealed, Arsenal will look to make up to two more signings before the window closes.
