Arsenal deal with Prem rival agreed; personal terms ‘shouldn’t be an issue’

Arsenal centre-back Auston Trusty on loan at Birmingham City

Arsenal have struck an agreement with Sheffield United over a star who was named his club’s Player of the Season last year, and forging personal terms should now be straightforward, per a report.

The Gunners have shored up their backline this summer through the arrival of the ultra-versatile Jurrien Timber. The Dutchman can play anywhere in defence, while the latest from Ben Jacobs suggests left-back Kieran Tierney is determined to stick it out and fight for his place.

William Saliba signed a new and improved contract in early July, meaning Arteta’s defence is an area he no longer needs to worry about.

But as a direct consequence of the plethora of moves, one player could now be on the way out – Auston Trusty.

The USA international, 24, is yet to make his senior Arsenal debut despite arriving from Colorado Rapids over one year ago.

Trusty was loaned to Championship side Birmingham City last season where by all accounts, he impressed. Indeed, being named the club’s Player of the Season is proof of that.

But with regular minutes back in north London highly unlikely, Arsenal are open to cashing in.

According to reliable Sheffield United reporter, Darren Smith, the newly-promoted Blades are poised to strike.

Smith claimed Sheffield Utd have agreed a permanent transfer with Arsenal to the tune of roughly £5m. Forging personal terms is now on the agenda, though that reportedly won’t be an issue.

Smith is among the most trusted reporters with regards to all things Sheffield Utd. As such, it comes as something of a surprise to see the Telegraph’s Mike McGrath report different details.

Indeed, McGrath confirmed talks between the Gunners and Blades have taken place. However, he claimed a season-long loan and not an outright transfer is in the works.

In any case, what is clear is Trusty looks destined for Bramall Lane in one form or fashion.

Trusty is left-footed and known for his physical presence. He has two caps for the USA to his name after making his senior debut earlier in 2023.
