Arsenal put mammoth contract offer to electric winger that’ll wreck West Ham, Aston Villa plans if signed
Arsenal have tabled a lengthy proposal to a winger being courted by several Premier League clubs including West Ham and Aston Villa, per a trusted source.
The Gunners ultimately fell short in their quest to be crowned Premier League champions for the first time since 2004. However, it cannot be argued Mikel Arteta’s side have made significant progress this season.
Arsenal also boast the second youngest starting eleven on average in the Premier League this year. Only bottom-placed Southampton have fielded a younger starting line-up over the course of the campaign.
Clearly, the future is bright and Arsenal appear determined to double down on their progress with a blockbuster transfer window.
The likes of Declan Rice and Moises Caicedo are wanted and will cost gargantuan sums. Elsewhere, a new centre-half who’ll replace the disappointing Rob Holding is wanted.
However, today’s update regards Arsenal shoring up their flanks, with a new deal for back-up right winger, Reiss Nelson, in the offing.
Nelson will become a free agent on June 30 unless Arsenal tie the 23-year-old down to fresh terms in the next five weeks.
In that scenario, the Daily Mail previously reported a host of Premier League clubs including West Ham, Aston Villa, Fulham and Brighton will gladly pounce.
Nelson is also understood to be courting interest from further afield in Italy and France specifically. However, per transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal have gone above and beyond to retain Nelson.
The trusted reporter tweeted Arsenal’s new proposal is for a hefty four years and would also contain an option for a fifth.
Clearly, Arsenal have faith in the winger despite his lack of appearances this season and the fact he was loaned out to Feyenoord last term.
Romano declared the decision is now “up to the player”, though Arsenal have certainly gone big in their efforts to retain Nelson.
The academy graduate has racked up just 560 minutes of action this term and has seen his season blighted by injury.
However, he has scored three times and assisted twice in that span including a memorable last-minute winner against Bournemouth on March 4.
Nelson clearly has all the tools to become a real threat for the Gunners, though injury and the presence of Bukayo Saka have restricted his opportunities thus far.
But with a first return to the Champions League since 2017 on the horizon, Mikel Arteta needs reliable strength in depth.
Nelson certainly ticks that box and Arsenal appear to have been very generous in their contract offer, at least from a length perspective.
