Arsenal and Tottenham could offer crippling decision to star striker who is considering his future

Marcus Thuram, Borussia Monchengladbach, November 2022

Transfer insider Dean Jones believes there could be a battle between Tottenham and Arsenal for the services of star striker Marcus Thuram.

Speculation over Thuram’s future has been rife for a little while. Indeed, the striker’s electric form has led to a number of suitors of late.

He has scored 13 goals from 17 games in all competitions this season. That haul includes 10 Bundesliga goals, making him the league’s second-highest goalscorer.

The teams reportedly interested in him include Liverpool, Tottenham, Arsenal and Aston Villa.

The fact that the Frenchman is out of contract at Borussia Monchengladbach at the end of the season means things are now hotting up.

While the German side will want to tie him down, all the attention on him will make doing so all the more tricky.

It might be tough for Thuram to learn of all the sides that are interested in him and not want to see what he could do elsewhere.

Recent reports have stated it looks as if Monchengladbach are aware they will be resigned to losing Thuram. As such, they will apparently listen to offers for him.

North London battle for Thuram

That report stated that Tottenham are now the favourites to snare the striker. Indeed, their proposal for Thuram seems to have gone down well, given the lucrative personal terms.

However, their local rivals Arsenal could yet snatch him from under them. Transfer insider Jones feels a battle could ensue between the two sides.

“The Thuram situation isn’t totally clear yet, but it’s reasonable to believe he’s considering his next move,” he told GIVEMESPORT.

“Arsenal have been linked with him too, so there might yet be a bit of a scrap for him if he fancies actually moving to England.”

Indeed, Thuram could have a big decision on his hands if Arsenal do pursue him. While Spurs’ reported approach seems to be a good one, at the moment, a move to Arsenal would seem a better one from a footballing point of view.

The Gunners are flying high at the top of the Premier League.

Furthermore, Thuram could work his way up to being a starter fairly quickly at the Emirates. While Gabriel Jesus is a quality player, the fact he hasn’t scored in the past six league games may be a concern.

That could mean he is dropped to the bench to give Thuram a chance, if he is signed. At Tottenham, though, Harry Kane is clearly the man they want to be starting up top for the foreseeable future.
