Arsenal have been going extremely well in the Premier League and the latest reports have claimed that they are close to agreeing on a new deal for one of their star players.

Mikel Arteta’s side currently hold an eight-point lead at the top of the table. A new winning culture has been developed at the Emirates and they are keen to keep the spine of the squad together.

Arsenal have the youngest squad in the league, with an average age of just 24.3. Their younger stars have stepped up to the plate this season and have proved their worth.

Bukayo Saka has been one of the best players in the league and Arsenal are now close to agreeing a new deal for the winger. His current contract is set to expire in 2024.

According to Fabrizio Romano, a new deal is pretty much in place for the winger. This will surely come as great news to Arsenal fans who are keen to keep him around.

“Unsurprisingly, Arsenal fans keep asking me about his contract,” Romano explained in his exclusive CaughtOffside column.

“An official announcement depends on the Arsenal media team, but the verbal agreement has been reached weeks ago.

“Saka has accepted, the new deal is ready so it’s up to the club to meet and sign the documents once final small details are sorted. But rest assured, Saka will extend.”

Given their position at the top of the league, Arsenal are one of the most attractive clubs in Europe right now. Finalising a new deal will protect Saka’s value and put an end to any exit rumours.

Saka has been big player for Arteta

Arsenal fans have been well aware of the talent Saka possesses for quite some time now. However, he has taken his game to a new level this season.

Saka has scored 12 goals and provided 10 assists in the league alone. With 22 goal contributions, that means Saka has been involved in 33.3% of the goals Arsenal have scored in the league.

His reliability also makes him a valuable player for the Gunners. This season he has played over 2,400 minutes and he has started in all 28 Premier League matches.

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink recently lauded over Saka’s impact this season and dubbed him as the player of the season.

“Bukayo for me is player of the season. He has done so well,” Hasselbaink told Sky Sports prior to Arsenal’s 3-0 triumph over Fulham.

“He’s been getting better and better and taking responsibility, popping up in important moments. Nothing fazes him, and for me, player of the season.”

The winger played a starring role for Arsenal in their 4-1 triumph over Crystal Palace this weekend. He managed to steal the show with a brace along with an assist.

News of an extended contract will come as a massive boost to the Gunners as we get into the business end of the season.

Saka has been one of the best players in Europe during this campaign and he is fully deserving of a new long-term deal at the club.
