Jack Wilshere explains why Youri Tielemans is perfect for Arsenal as Raphinha chances are assessed

Jack Wilshere believes Youri Tielemans is the midfield target who would have the biggest impact for Arsenal next season.

Mikel Arteta is planning a busy summer of transfers after landing Fabio Vieira this week. The Portuguese midfielder joins Matt Turner and youngster Marquinhos from Sao Paulo.

Mohamed Elneny has penned a new contract, but Arteta is still looking at adding to his midfield options with the future of Granit Xhaka far from assured.

Leicester midfielder Tielemans has been linked with a move to the Gunners, while Ruben Neves is also understood to be a target.

Tielemans is out of contract next summer, although the Foxes hold a 12-month option on his contract.

Sky Sports have though reported that the Emirates outfit have decided against pursuing a deal for the former Monaco man.

And that news will disappoint former Arsenal star Wilshere, who believes Tielemans would by a perfect signing.

He spoke to talkSPORT EDGE and was asked to rate the club’s potential signings out of 10.

“I definitely think he (Neves) has the quality to play for Arsenal. You can see his technical ability and the way he can pass and score from outside the box.

“Arsenal are pretty strong in midfield at the minute but he would definitely improve the squad – 8/10.

“I think Neves is a more of a technician whereas with Youri Tielemans you get a bit more drive and energy going forward.

“If I was going to pick one to go to Arsenal, looking at our midfield and what we could add to improve it, I’d probably go for Youri Tielemans – 9/10.”

Raphinha and Youri Tielemans have the ‘quality’

Arteta is also intent on adding to a forward line which has been depleted after the departures of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacaazette.

Leeds ace Raphinha is the latest man to have caught the eye of the Gunners, with a bid being rejected by the West Yorkshire club.

Gabriel Jesus is understood to be deep in talks with the club over a move from Man City. Tammy Abraham and Richarlison have also been linked.

Speaking about Raphinha, Wilshere said: “He’s someone who came to England and adapted straight away. That always shows the quality of a player because some players – even top players – take a little while to get to grips with the Premier League.

“He’s got a lot of experience in a short amount of time and was in a relegation battle last season. He’s one I would like to see at Arsenal – 9/10.’

Gabriel Jesus would ‘score a lot of goals’

Wilshere, 30, also claimed Jesus would “score a lot of goals”.

“I think he would be a top, top signing. He’s a top striker and he’s obviously played in a top team for many years now.

“He knows the Premier League so he’s someone who could come in and fit in straight away. With Arsenal’s creative players, he would score a lot of goals – 10/10,” said Wilshere.

Meanwhile, former Chelsea striker Abraham was also rated a 10/10 signing.

“Tammy was linked with Arsenal before he went to Roma. He picked Roma and it’s worked out for him. He’s done really well and he’s getting chances for England now.

“If he was to come back to England I’d hope Arsenal were the first team after him because he knows the league. I would definitely go for him – 10/10,” added Wilshere.
