A trusted journalist believes Arsenal and not Tottenham are ahead in the race to sign Dusan Vlahovic from Fiorentina next summer.
Vlahovic, 21, is hot property after a superb 2020-2021 campaign. The Serbia international bagged 21 goals from 37 Serie A appearances and has carried that form into the current season. The former Partizan ace has already found the net eight times from 11 top-flight games.
Unsurprisingly, many top clubs have been showing an interest. He will be out of contract in the summer of 2023.
And Fiorentina director Joe Barone recently revealed that the youngster has no intention of penning fresh terms. His decision not to extend has alerted the north London duo.
Manchester City hold an interest in the forward who is valued at around £68m by I Viola. But Gianluca Di Marzio is adamant Arsenal are in fact frontrunners for the Serbian.
The Italian suggests that Fiorentina have already held talks with the Gunners over a possible deal. Mikel Arteta will need to strengthen his attacking ranks with Alexandre Lacazette likely to leave at the end of 2021-2022.
And the report claims Arsenal are willing to match the Italian club’s asking price through an initial outlay plus add-ons. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang continues to find the net but cannot go on for ever.
Arsenal target Alexander Isak wants Premier League move in the future
Arsenal target Alexander Isak reportedly wants a Premier League move in the future amid the Gunners' interest, with more news on Andrea Belotti and Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
The Gabon ace will be 33 in June next year and Arteta needs a younger option. Vlahovic might be the man but there is every chance that other clubs will enter the picture as the season progresses.
Italiano rails at Vlahovic rumours
Fiorentina have enjoyed a solid start to the season and sit seventh in the standings. They have 18 points but are already 13 adrift of runaway pair Napoli and AC Milan.
Manager Vincenzo Italiano does not want any additional distractions for his side. And he has made it clear that Vlahovic remains fully committed to the Fiorentina cause.
“We are talking about a guy who has scored eight goals in 11 appearances even if, during some games, we were not able to provide service properly,” he said, via Sempremilan.com.
“I don’t read papers, I’ve heard about Arsenal, Tottenham, City, Juventus and Milan. They are just rumours and not too credible for me, the guy is highly focused and he wants to do well.”
