Arsenal learn unbelievably cheap price tag for Man City star; Guardiola won’t say no to ‘friend’ Arteta

Man City stars Joao Cancelo and Phil Foden

Arsenal have reportedly received a significant boost in their pursuit of Manchester City full-back Joao Cancelo, with Pep Guardiola set to sanction a permanent sale.

Mikel Arteta is looking to bring in some top players this summer. Now, it seems the Bayern Munich loanee has become one of his transfer priorities.

Cancelo has already proved he has the quality to perform at a high level in the Premier League. So, it will be interesting to see if Arsenal get their man.

Since January, the Portugal international has been on loan with Bayern Munich.

The official reason for his departure from Man City was that Cancelo wanted more consistent playing time. Although, there have been rumours of a fallout between him and Guardiola.

However, this has seemingly not deterred Arteta, who, as noted by TEAMtalk, is strongly considering a move for Cancelo.

He could potentially become the third Man City star to join Arsenal, after Oleksandr Zinchenko and Gabriel Jesus signed for the London club last summer.

Their arrival certainly had a positive impact on the Gunners, so Arteta will be hoping Cancelo can have a similar impact next season.

Arsenal learn bargain Cancelo asking price

Cancelo’s loan spell at Bayern came to an end on Saturday – playing 28 minutes off the bench as the German giants defeated FC Koln 2-1 to snatch the title away from Borussia Dortmund.

Overall, the 29-year-old made 22 appearances for Bayern. In the process, he scored one goal and made six assists.

Despite impressing in Germany, Bayern turned down the chance to sign Cancelo permanently for £60.7m (€70m). This has opened the door for Arsenal to swoop in for his signature.

Now, according to Spanish outlet SportMan City has significantly reduced their price tag as Guardiola looks to get Cancelo off the books.

The report claims that the Cityzens will accept a bid in the region of £34.7m (€40m) for the Portuguese star this summer. So, Arsenal have a great chance of getting Cancelo on a cut-price deal.

Also, Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has claimed that Guardiola won’t block the defender from joining Arsenal.

Speaking to wettfreunde, he said: “I don’t think Guardiola is a coach who’ll say no, you don’t have to go there – because he’s superior. He thinks he’s superior in every dynamic situation in football.

“I don’t think he’d put a negative situation for him (Joao Cancelo) to go and I don’t think that Guardiola wants to say no to Arsenal or Arteta because he’s a big friend of Arteta. I don’t think he’ll say no.”

Barcelona are also interested in the Man City outcast, but Financial Fair Play issues may make a deal difficult for them.

So, as it stands, it seems Arsenal are leading the race for Cancelo.
