Defender causing a stir in London as Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham scout Korea star

Arsenal and Chelsea have reportedly joined Tottenham and two continental clubs in monitoring the progress of Fenerbahce defender Kim Min-jae.

The 25-year-old has been turning heads with his displays in the Turkish top flight. The South Korea international joined the Yellow Canaries from Chinese outfit Beijing Guoan last summer. They paid less than £3m for the central defender and it seems to have been a decent investment.

Nicknamed the ‘Monster’, Kim has enjoyed 25 league starts for the Super Lig side, helping them to fourth in the table. Spurs have long held an interest in the stopper.

It was reported in December that the north Londoners were seriously considering a bid for the player. Nothing materialised and he remained in Turkey.

Whether that is still the case next season only time will tell, with the Gunners and Blues now also on the case.

The London trio had scouts at Fener’s clash with runaway leaders Trabzonspor, according to Portuguese journalist Pedro Sepulveda, via Sport Witness.

The match ended 1-1, with all eyes on the performance of the Asian ace. But there were also representatives from Juventus and Porto in attendance.

The duo have been linked before. Details of how far the interest actually goes are sketchy but the report adds that Porto manager Sergio Conceicao ‘likes him’.

Ollie Watkins linked with Arsenal as Steven Gerrard says Villa will listen to offers

The former Portugal winger will not welcome the news that three top Premier League teams are keen. That will doubtless raise his value and could price the Dragons out of the market.

Kim won’t break the bank

Kim has been capped 40 times by South Korea, scoring three goals for his nation. He is clearly a player going places and it might be he ends up in the English capital.

With the sums paid for players in modern times, his valuation will not cause any clubs concerned to break sweat. It was said in December that his price tag is €20m and that Fenerbahce would not buckle on that valuation.

Whether or not they push for more at the end of the campaign only time will tell. But any club that lands the centre-half will be getting an accomplished defender, with European experience.

Kim played every minute of his club’s six Europa League games in 2021-2022. However, he could not prevent them from slipping into the Europa Conference League after finishing third in their group.
